Spoiler: show
So I stopped about 6 months ago, hoping they would announce a full expansion. Yay!
What I'm concerned about is that it will have to be on par with ToAU, or it's just going to be a disappointment.
I stopped at the end of January I think, but I've been keeping tabs on things since it's so hard to let go of my 8 year old characters... I would suggest watching BG and the official websites for info about upcoming content before you decide to pay SE again, make sure they're earning your money before you pay them and return. I only did a handful of VW runs before quitting, mainly because after the server merge I had trouble fitting in with a new group of "friends." Catching up on VW was something I was dreading, I'm hoping that the new content will offer something better or at least comparable so I don't even have to bother with VW progression.
its a pity they didnt mic the audience.. but even then you could hear the crowd go wild when the words 'new jobs' appeared on the screen.
New jobs will always cause excitement, more than zones or other stuff. Especially if it's jobs people have been requesting for a long time like Geomancer and Mystic Knight (yeah I know it's Rune Fencer but they've basically explained that it's the same thing).
Oh and avatars, can't go wrong with avatars either.
I had a fever dream last night thanks to being very sick + these announcements.
I imagined the setup @ Fanfest 2007, but instead of server specific tables they have "community tables" setup. One for the OF, one for FFXIAH, one for the wiki, one for BG, etc. All laid out so that no one who seriously hates each other is sitting next to each other. Like planning wedding seating when your family is very close and very large.
They opened with Tanaka retiring. Half the room exploded in cheer's and the other half into tears. Then there was a riot. After that it got a little weird, but I remember one thing clearly. What started the riot was when Tanaka raised his hands for everyone to calm down and said one word.
Balanced.

I plan to come back anyways but when I quit I dropped all my gear and gave away the gil. So I have a lot of stuff to get back or fill anyways. Im lvl 75 quit pre cap.
Can not play much so odds are its going to take me weeks if not months to get to the 99 cap for the job I pick to take there.
decent gear/merits then lol
While they said Geomancer would use B- Elemental magic I'm wondering if that was translated wrong. Look at the picture with the Geomancer Galka, He is clearly using a Ninjutsu hand sign with his right hand and their coat has what I believe is Japanese writing? They have this overall Old japanese wiseman look. I'm wondering if they said New tier 4 elemental ninjutsu instead of black magic because that would own so hard.
Geomancer and ninjutsu? Lulz
You'd think they'd make it B+ just so they won't be stuck with SCH sub in all scenarios.
Only 16 skill diff between B- and B+ at 99, does it really make that much difference? Few merits or like one slot's gear swap could make up for it. Not to mention they have positional (compass direction) magic accuracy, if needed, which I would assume will be significantly more powerful than the magic accuracy you'd get from 16 skill (or else they're doing it wrong).
It would not be surprising if there are kanji characters on their gear because they are developing this job with heavy Chinese, not Japanese, influence (feng shui relationship with magic, gear styling, etc.) and many of those characters are shared and basically look the same anyway. I'm guessing there will be Chinese influence on the lore surrounding the job as well, which will likely manifest itself in the job-related quests. I would not read into that with ninjutsu or anything ninja-related. Hand motion, I have no idea, but almost certainly unrelated to ninjutsu (not to mention ninjas dont generate balls of glowing light in their hands when they cast ninjutsu).
tl;dr Chinese, not Japanese, and not ninjutsu
Thanks for pointing that out, While it isn't Ninjutsu I have a feeling Geomancer will be casting Geomancy spells like those Shaman in those oldschool asain movies where they are actually making a similar hand symbol on one hand and the other with a bell or maraca like intrument and start dance/hopping one leg lol.
