Last month they trademarked "Drakerider," "774 Deaths," and "Blood of Chaos," unknown projects. Can't really imagine that any of those would be expansion pack names. Suppose the last one is a possibility but seems unlikely.

How the hell would people port their XI characters to XIV, anyway? "Here, have this max level character with gear that doesn't actually exist! Enjoy not touching 95%+ of the game."

I imagine only specific high end stuff would copy over like ultimate weapons and high end VW drops but it couldn't be direct copies obviously. It would be a XIV'd up version. You wouldn't start with a max level character but you would get some kind of bonus. It would have made sense in the first place to make 14 into 11-2 and from recent patch note skims it looks like that may be what they are doing. It would make a ton of sense for them to make certain gear that you can only obtain in one game transfer over to the other in some way. How many 11 addicts would start playing 14 if there was awesome gear in 14 that you could use in 11 to some extent? If they want 14 2.0 to not be completely pointless they need to get a large majority of their 11 core to transfer over. Pulling 14 out of the trash seems like the only thing they care about right now and I can see them doing anything at this point to make it happen. Maybe the other side of the Planar rift is Eorzea and they will try to invade us to get back all their building materials and precious metals.

I really doubt SE is going to care to try and get XI players over to XIV. Some players will never leave XI because of 9 or so years invested, relationships formed on their servers. XIV 2.0 could turn into a real solid MMO, surpass everything XI was but people aren't going to throw away everything they invested to start over. XI and XIV is no different than EQ1 and EQ2, some moved on to EQ2 while lots of people disliked EQ2 and stayed behind on EQ1.

Yes this exactly. This game is clearly lacking in many areas, but many of us stay simply out of habit and for the simple fact of the time that we invested.

Who else would they try to get to play 14? No one else is even looking at it right now. The idea of 2.0, from what I saw, was met with a scoff. We are their captive audience and probably the only people they have even the slightest chance of getting to give 14 a 2nd look. If they created some sort of mutual dependence or just some kind of in game advantage to playing both games I think a lot of us would be all over it.

Blood of Chaos would be a good name for an Add-on, but several of the other ones that were listed would be but are used for other things. Although I did find the title "An Epoch of Balance" curiously absent from the list.

Also... SE has been breaking barriers with all MMOs... XI is the first cross-platform MMO to be released... What if this XIV 2.0 version that integrates better with FFXI made it so that the two worlds played off of eachother... simultaneously. Play the same character in Euroza and Vana'diel, using your POL account. Items gains in XIV carry over to XI, visa versa... adds whole new layers of complexity to gameplay.

But of course, meaningless speculation is meaningless.

This. It would be terrible. There shouldn't be any connection between the two universes at all. In fact, the whole deal about XIV was that it wasn't Vana'diel and was going to try and be as different as possible. Admittedly some things worked and some things didn't, but I don't see them straying away from that any time soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if a the new expansion coincides with the supposed interface revamp. Honestly based on some of the wording in more recent posts, it sounds like they have a bunch under wraps that is all interdependent on more stuff that they just aren't allowed to tell us about, so it seems like all we're getting is scraps at the moment.

Yeah pretty much what everyone is getting at. It makes no PR sense to hold a major 2 day event of festivities to deliver bad news. Not even SE is dumb enough to do that.

I think it's for this reason that I'm excited by what is to come. Even if its just a teaser of the year ahead and no expansion/Addon I think it'd be pretty fun simply
