Isn't that exactly what I said?
Athletes are constantly saying this shit, and it's stupid that anyone thinks it gives other teams any sort of added motivation/added pressure.
The Mets had a chance to win the World Series last year. Last year is over. I think we are the team to beat in the NL East, finally. But, that's only on paper." - Jimmy Rollins
Same thing, media ran with it out of context. This wasn't a direct guarantee for this year.
Yep
Why is this a big deal again? You kind of want an athlete who wants to win the fucking Super Bowl you know, thats the kind of attitude you want in the locker room. You obviously have to back it up but going into the mindset of getting to the big game is essential. Everyone laughed at Rex Ryan for promising to go 3 years in a row, but shit, he got to the fucking AFC Championship game with Mark Sanchez in his first 2 years. They believed in that shit. Noone really laughed the 3rd time he said it, cause they actually got some legit wins to get there the 2nd time.
I'd much rather have a WR with his mind set at the goal rather than someone whose fine with just making some money and settling for a 1 and out in the playoffs. The Eagles generally get to the playoffs at least every other year, and they reached the Super Bowl not THAT long ago, and the NFC East is a total joke of a division. The media is just making a mountain out of a molehill.
big difference between
1) "And our ultimate goal is to win the superbowl; anything less is failure"
2) "We will win a super bowl"
and actually yes, everybody was fucking laughing at rex for making the prediction 3 times in a row. Because he didn't win a superbowl. Great, 2 straight AFC championship losses. That would be wonderful if it's what you predicted. You predicted superbowl wins and you didn't even make it to the game. It's a joke
Jets bringing in Brady Quinn. First Drew Stanton, now Brady Quinn. Mark Sanchez, Brady Quinn, and Drew Stanton on one roster...competing for a starting spot.
Hold on...
HahahahahahahahahahahahhahHahahahHahahahahaha
He could have said something like "I would like to win a Superbowl with the Eagles during that time" or "I think we have a shot at a Superbowl during the next 5 years". The funny/stupid part is he shoots off his mouth with "I guarantee we win a Superbowl". You can't guarantee who will win any game in the NFL. This is exactly what they did last year, and they fell flat. If you talk shit, be prepared to back up it. If you fail, then you get made fun of. If you can't take it, don't talk shit.
Considering it's the Jets, and they went from "ok you guys were given the first AFC Championship game" to "Ok wow they somehow beat the Patriots at home, they kinda earned the 2nd one", no, the 3rd wasn't that farfetched. The Jets were heavily favored all around this season so while it was somewhat comical that Rex had to remind everyone yet again that they were going to the Super Bowl, there was some actual weight behind those words this time around.
And yes that was intentional.
Hey man, its been well documented that Drew Stanton has the 'Miz gold seal of approval for QB'an', so he will ultimately unseat the Sanchize and lead the Jets to the Bowl. Speaking of my stable of QB thoroughbreds Dan Orlovsky signed with division rival Tampa Bay today, the NFC South just got exponentially better overnight.
Except Young didn't offer any guarantees last year.
His comments were pretty innocuous and hardly boastful.
"Dream Team. From [CB] Nnamdi [Asomugha] to [CB Dominique Rodgers-] Cromartie, and from [DE] Jason [Babin] to myself, I know they're going to do some more things. It's beautiful to see where we're trying to go. I'm all for it. Whatever they ask me to do, to be scout team quarterback or quarterback learning, do whatever it is. I just want to be here to help and be a part of a team. I'm just happy to be a part of the Philadelphia Eagles."
kevin boss to the chiefs.
I hope cassel plays well next year. That offense could be pretty cool.
