Details are still being worked out. There is probably either little guaranteed, or what is "guaranteed" is contingent not on Manning's performance but health.

And honestly? I'm not sure what else Denver was going to do with the money this year. They have fricking $40M in cap space, more than anyone else in the league. Yeah, they could have gone after Mario, but with Miller and Dumervil, that would have created more problems than solutions. They can still give Wallace a massive contract and pay Manning what he's asking *AND* be $10M under the cap. And next year, it's going to be even worse-- I expect the cap may go up by as much as $10M. Denver doesn't really have any marquee players, other than Clady, who would command a huge contract who isn't locked up for another couple-three years, and it would suck to have to over-pay just to get to the salary floor. And yes, Denver is still probably over-paying with Manning, but... it's a much bigger potential upside than anyone else they can over-pay for.

I'm not anything like convinced he makes Denver an instant contender like Manning to SF would have been (not necessarily a favorite, mind you, but a contender), but if he's 80% of old-Manning, he at least gives Denver the AFC West this year.
