This is honestly because you do not know what you are talking about,

Guild wars lasted 7 years before the release of the second.

You are not paying a subscription, Im sure you wont see an issue when Halo 5 comes out, then whats the issue with another guild wars?. I will play it and enjoy it and be glad they are progressing with technology.

When you think about it, your comment is so stupid as it basically is saying a publisher should only publish one freaking game? that's like saying SE betrayed us for releasing any other Final Fantasy game or any game in general instead of just concentrating on FFXI.

Also Ncsoft has nothing really to do with what goes into the game after release, Its Areneanet the developer who has faithfully supported guild wars 1 till this day with awesome expansions and additions. Which should be expected for guild wars 2 also. So I really do not see what your point is. Do you know the difference between publisher and developer?

Is there a personal stash to store things in? Like beyond the inventory your character carries of course.

Guild wars lasted 2 years before they announced the production of guild wars 2, which is what I said. Please read the post so that you're not the one not knowing what you're talking about. Halo isn't an MMO, terrible comparison. SE did fuck up making 14 instead of progressing 11 in my opinion, yes. comparing online games in a genre to offline makes you look kind of retarded but whatever

Since this is a non sub game, yes you can compare it to a non mmo, thats the entire reason both guild wars and guild wars 2 stand out. Also since this is guild wars "2" and takes place in the same world and not another totally different world like FFXIV compared to FFXI, I really do not see what the issue is lol. In fact the devs actually were going to release another guild wars expansion but realized the things they wanted to do could not be done with the current engine and tech, so what did they do? decided to go with part 2, which according with your argument about 11 is progressing the game. Make up your mind on what your issue is.

how do they stand out? there's more F2P mmos than not now a days... I was looking for honest opinions on why I should buy this game when I feel like a replacement for it will be announced, you're just acting like a butthurt 12 year old

Do you actually understand why GW2 was announced? Here's a small background on how it happened, just in case you need some education.

So, GW1 is released. Every 6 months an expansion comes out in lieu of paying a subsciption fee. After Nightfall, ArenaNet began developed the 4th expansion pack called Guild Wars Utopia (or something like that, I don't remember the exact name). The scope of the expansion becomes so very large that they decide, "Hey, let's just turn this into a new game instead! We can change the things people disliked about GW1 and implement all sorts of cool new ideas this way!" That's exactly what they did! Instead of announcing a new expac, they go ahead and announce a brand new game. But! We don't stop there. Due to them scrapping Utopia's storyline, they had to begin bridging the gap between GW1 and GW2, so ArenaNet released the expansion pack Eye of the North. After that is released, they continue supplying the community with free content updates in the form of Guild Wars Beyond that furthers the bridge between GW1 and GW2.

7 years later, we have GW2. Any questions?

Edit: My basic point is, GW2 was simply announced 2 years after GW1 was released because the Utopia expansion got too big for it's britches and they decided making a new game they could improve upon rather than try and patch up an already aging core engine and gameplay. The 2 year timeline only occured because of ArenaNet's, at the time, bi-yearly expansion release schedule and they decided to share the news about Utopia being cancelled for a new game rather than say nothing at all. The game shouldn't have been announced for another 2 years or so, putting it 4 years into GW1's life-cycle.

Well don't buy it? I mean what do you really want to hear? Just read around the damn forum a bit and see that the game is a good game. If a new version will be announced in 2 years and it takes 5 years to make I really do not see what the fuck is the problem unless you think you should spend your entire life on one game. . Replacements will always be announced that's the nature of the industry, get over it, play the game and enjoy it for what it is.

People are answering you, without name calling mind you, but yet you fail to accept it since its not what you are looking for?

It's not a replacement if anything its a continuation, lore wise is takes place 250 years after the first game. It is a real part 2 not a completely different world. If you played guild wars 1, you would feel very connected. It is exactly what SE should have done with FFXI.

    For damn good reason.

First, the original team that developed Guild Wars out of O'Briens house was small. They've always intended Guild Wars to be just a CORPG, not a MMORPG. Guild Wars for them was just the first step. A lot of those guys came from working on and playing games like Runescape and WoW. Hell, some of them were ex-Blizzard employees who worked on WoW. When they started to realize the future things they wanted to implement would be too much from a technical stand point, they did the logical thing and started from the ground up.

I don't know why people are taking an investment stance onto a freaking video game. Buy it, play it, enjoy it. Why does it matter if a successor is announced 3, 4, 5 years etc... from now?

I read around the forum for tera too and bought it after the community had gotten really hyped over it . Also, it might be the nature of the industry but afaik the most successful MMOs still don't have sequels/prequels (talking WoW obviously.)

also no, I did not know that's how GW2 came into existence, though it is smart from a business standpoint, creating a new game instead of updating an older one. creates more hype, money on box sales and it's probably easier to just start from scratch. I'd prefer a career mmo which was always being developed/upgraded to meet the needs of its playerbase instead of being thrown aside and then recreated years later, to me it doesn't seem very loyal. I guess I just don't like the new mmo hype as much as everyone else, starting over in a new game has never had much appeal after you've done it on 10+ mmos.

But i'll stop posting, too many rustled jimmies.

    The fuck?

They made the Hall of Monuments for loyal Guild Wars players.

You are completely ignorant about the subject. Thank you for stopping your posts now, for your own sake.

If you know anything about game development you can only go so far when it comes to upgrading and expanding a game. lets be realistic here, at some point it has to be remade, technology does not stand still.

I really don't know what rustled jimmies is, but don't stop posting, it isnt you... its us..

Well, GW2 IS rewarding longtime GW1 players with what's called the Hall of Monuments! If you have a certain number of (and we're calling it this for simplicity sake) achievement points, you get some cosmetic rewards that carry over to GW2. They are pretty sweet things, too! Especially since, as I've said in so many places already, GW2 is all about lookin' sweet as hell.

I daresay most MMOs don't have sequels because it's just easier/more cost effective to slap an expansion pack together than to try and make an entire new game. Lotta band-aid fixes that can end up making the game feel like a mess sometimes (look at how some people feel about WoW. The game desperately needs a sequel to clean things up, but it won't ever happen). I don't think you should stop posting, it's just that your initial post sounded rather inflammatory. No big deal!

I should also mention that GW2's development has been guided by what the players have been asking for since, well, the game entered development, so it's easy to say GW2 is merely an extension of GW1 that the majority of the community was crying for.

I tried ranger and don't think I want to deal with a pet and all the bullshit that comes with managing it.

I like elementalist but that is the only other class I played and only to level 6(and the ranger to level 3) so it's not much of a trial.

Anyone else got some insight on the other classes so I can kinda narrow my choice for launch day. I would really like to start leveling my class then spend a few days trying them all out ya know.
I played a Mesmer to 15, and did PvE and WvWvW. There's something quite fun about beam spamming, using a 2H GreatSword, then switching up to a sword and torche, to finish stuff off, and throwing out clones that do some DPS/tank and distract people, in PvP. I didn't feel as useful, in WvWvW, where AoE > anything for attacking/defending a Fort, but in back and forth skirmishes, I could pick people off one by one without much trouble. The range wasn't quite as good as ranger/elementelists either, which kinda pissed me off. It looks like it can be a pretty well rounded class, given the time to learn all of the abilities/traits/weapon skills, but that's probably true for any class. Also, you'll really have to like lots of purple/pink effects.

There's only so far you can "progress" a game before you need to make a new game to keep the game looking halfway decent. MMOs are not immune to this, unless you want that pixilated ball of fluff called XI to be the bright and shining star for the year two thousand fucking twelve. Look at the game. Look at it. If you wanna play your text-based MUDs for 30 years because you value "gameplay over visuals", then more power to you, but I'm perfectly happy with companies making new games with new engines, so long as the game itself isn't completely fail. D3 was fail. XIV was fail. GW2 will not be.

I think you guys should just have ignored him when he mixed up the Developer (ArenaNet) with the Publisher (NCsoft). its like saying Why buy the new Madden game when the new NBA game is going to be released by EA.
