@ Katlan & Kiarax: Yes, I run a Rampager's Magic Find gear set outside of Dungeons and PvP, and I know how to use my clones to do so, even when multiple mobs are around. Sometimes, RNG just hates me and everything ignores my clones, and I'll go down fast, but that really doesn't happen very often. It helps that my build also gives me Regen and Protection, when I'm around my clones, and that even lets me just sit in several aoe mechanic fights in dungeon, where I run a Knights Accessory + Precision/Toughness/Condition armor + Rampager's weapons that gives me a lot more survivability without dropping my damage much. Interestingly enough, I'm up to Fractal 8 now, and am using my Rampager's/Magic Find gear set and still surviving quite well, even kiting/holding the Uncatagorized Fire Shaman/Troll Champion bosses, while the rest of my fail group died and rezzed themselves over and over. For W^3 I keep the Knights Accessories/Rampager's Weapons and use a Soldier's armor setup for more HP/Armor to survive the chaos of AoE and conditions.

This, keeping shit still is literally one of the most important parts of "tanking" in this game imo, it's always something I prioritize (especially since I generally only play Guardian if Shiyo is playing her Thief and makes me...). Even playing my Mesmer or Necro I will try to keep mobs as still as possible when necessary, via immobilize on Mesmer or chill/Death Shroud (tanking the hits with life force rather than my HP). Bads gonna bad either way though, can't be helped if playing with randoms.

Just hit level 71 and getting about 10 levels a week. Guardian using mace/shield, greatsword, scepter/focus, with shouts/signets, toughness/power/healing/vitality, with honor/valor traits.

Any recommendations for overall approach, and for endgame gear and activities?

Thinking of cleric's draconic armor to start, and then some of the karma exotics look decent:

Weapons? Most fun dungeons - fotm?

    Overall advice welcome.

    Thanks!

Cleric's gear really is only if you intend to play a full support build guardian does have some nice heals but playing a support role is pretty much down to sitting in the back with your scepter/staff doing a whole lot of nothing. if your comfortable with being able to dodge attacks or even tank look more into knight's gear and use mace/shield & greatsword for damage and tank abilities. its all down to how you wanna play it really. i currently run greatsword/scepter & shield in fractals and it works out ok but its all about your chosen play style.

I tank in Cleric's gear, not sure why you think using it would limit you to a support role. I use a selfish as fuck med heal build though simply because it is fun and you're basically invincible. If I was going for an autistic healing setup obviously I'd want some precision.

Cleric gear and usually I go with something like Hammer + Mace/Focus or Hammer + Scepter/Focus, though it really depends on the people I'm with.

As for abilities, I usually have Hold the Line/Renewed Focus all the time and the other 2 depending on what I'm doing.

I only use cleric accessories, and I'm a full support guardian. All of the rest of my gear is Knight's with one or two pieces of Magi, which does have healing power. All of my runes are focused on healing power and boon duration, 3/6 Superior Water and 3/6 Superior Monk.

I lean towards shouts, hammer, and staff. I usually go with Stand Your Ground and Hold the Line for my shouts since they're great not only for the boons that they give, but for their low recast for AH heals. Generally I only switch them out for things where I need an extra stun break or a speed boost, Save Yourselves or Retreat taking the slot of Hold the Line most often. For the third skill, since Hammer synergizes incredibly well with concecrations and its own symbol for blast combos, I switch between Hallowed Ground and Purging Flames depending on what I'm doing, both of which are worth about 9 stacks of might for 30s~ every 64s. I also try to close combos off of Ethereal fields when possible since I'm always running dungeons with 2 mesmers, the AoE Chaos Armor is nice.

Elites are pretty easy. Generally I keep Courage on for an emergency group heal, but in higher tier fractals I've found Renewed Focus to be far more valuable.

There's that to. If the weapon feels more like it was built for DPS than support (Like Greatsword) I usually go with an more offensive prefix like Berserker.

Thanks for the great feedback, just what I was looking for. It looks like Knights plus Cleric accessories is a good starting point, may alter things as I pick up some karma gear which is more dps-oriented (plus it has skulls all over it for the win). Sometimes it seems like getting up close with a Greatsword stabilizes an entire situation, keeps attention on me and off others, and for that I'm gonna need some DPS. Mace and Shield for backup and more traditional tanking and survivability, and Scepter plus Focus for ranged if I have to stay back.

I do have Tome of Courage but am not completely comfortable with it yet - will pick up Renewed Focus in the interim while I work on it.

    Much appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone have suggestions as to efficiently level? Just started recently, but after doing all the quests in Queensdale, and porting around to where events occur...it hasn't been productive at level 15. I'm amazed I can craft one item for 10% of my level, but if I kill a bear eight levels higher than me I get 15 exp, what's with that? I had read about living in world vs world to level, but I couldn't tell what I should be doing or what was going on, could someone give me a summary of that too? Thanks.

There's absolutely no reason to be fighting mobs 8 levels then you are since you can level up on mobs that are 70 levels lower, if you so desire. Down leveling changes the leveling experience a lot. Don't play it like a normal linear MMO. Doing a few different races newbie zones is a good start to leveling up quickly and getting access to a lot of different abilities.

Heh I was just seeing if I could. The leveling doesn't scale does it? I mean that if I'm 50 and I join events in the starter area and the reward for people of that range is 500 exp, it won't get boosted to an appropriate amount for me correct?

Everything is given as a percentage instead of a flat value. All zones give the same amount of exp basically.

Curious if anyone else is running a 7950 and how their performance is. Just installed one and bumped the core up to 1ghz, getting around 20-30 fps standing around lions arch near the mystic forge. Is that normal for such a card? Most places outside of town run at nearly 40-60 fps. I think my CPU is holding me back at bit, i7-930 @ 2.8 (plan to OC soon, just installed an aftermarket cooler).

I think the difference is noticable, I went back and did some stuff in the human starter at around 78 and it definitely wasn't the same as Orr. However, it's respectable and certainly was better than trying to enjoy myself in the shitty 75+ zones (this was like 2 weeks ago, there's no one there anymore and it's total ass to get anywhere). I much preferred taking a small xp hit and having fun in lower zones, monster variety probably made up for some of the xp hit too considering there is literally 1 type of enemy in orr so you don't get the daily xp bonus for it there.

After a certain point, rewards for level scaling are reduced. At 80, that's 54 and below iirc.

There might be a difference eventually I dunno. My necro leveled up doing the full circuit (all five 1-15s > all four 15-25s, etc). From my experience the zone itself you're leveling in isn't too important, it's more about how many events you're doing and how quickly you're doing them. So if a zone isn't good for events, then yeah, you'll slow down some.

One thing I don't get is how the rewards are given for jumping puzzles. I did the one in the asura starting zone at 80 and got 2 lv14 items. I logged out next to the chest (slightly pissed off because it), then logged in the next day and could open the chest again, this time getting two 75+ items.

Is it just pure luck, and the items can be any level? Or should the previous ones have scaled up or something?

So i finally get into this game, what do people do at lv80 aside from farming dungeons? most of the time i just stand in LA waiting for EM mode shouts, is this normal or am i missing anything else? map clearance is out of the question for me, it's way too boring and there is no real incentive to do it and nobody shouts for level 1 fractals these days so i can't get started on that.

For me I mostly explored new areas, discover crafting recipes, gather (for daily), and events. It does kinda get a a tad slow around the 20-25ish part, but once you break through that it's not too bad. If you're having trouble I'd use an Asuran Gate and head to another starting area and explore there.
