So in seeing the patch announcement and having some free time i thought about picking this back up (Played Beta > Launch and stopped due to time).

What class would you guys recommend for casual play? (Aka play a few hours and not cry in frustration ala DRG)
How is the pug scene for end game? (have a feeling like it is GW where you need to find 4 friends to go far)
How is the Solo for useful stuff? (Betting they smack this down like 55 monk)

I'd disagree with the "require good setups" sentiment.

Every profession is relatively decent in all aspects of the game. Some are stronger than others in certain situations. With Guardian, Warrior and Mesmer (although this is a lot weaker since the Quickness nerf) are the strongest in most PvE situations. A good guardian carrying all of their possible weapons can literally carry any dungeon or low-mid level fractal group.

The only "setup" situation you need to worry about really is not hampering yourself by having too many condition damage professions in a single group as the bleed cap is relatively easy to hit by certain classes.

There really is a limit on available PvE content atm. You can use gw2lfg.com to get pug groups for pretty much any of it. Like any pug system, some runs will be better than others, but as long as you aren't trying to pug Arah path 4 or 40+ fractals you are probably going to be ok. There are only 3 types of content that requires an "organized" group (even the "organized" can be used lightly with regards to successful pugs), dungeons, fractals and the new guild missions. The latter is more just about finding a guild that runs them at a time/day that you can be in attendance everyweek. Seeing as doing dailies and doing guild missions are the two best ways to obtain any sort of high level gear.

there's also not any real end game on the pve side, so the difficulty level is highly dependent on how bad you or your group are.

Any class can solo to 80 but some are more desired in events - warrior, mesmer, guardian for example. Mesmer, elementalist and necro are beasts in WvW if played right.

You can actually craft to 80 in just a few hours if you have the gold for it - costs around 60-80 gold. Players who have already leveled one toon the regular way and just want an alt for WvW or PvP sometimes do this - you have to then put in the hours to learn how it works at 80 though.

So I'm thinking of jumping back to my Grenade build on Engineer. With that said would Knight's gear still be prefered over Carrion?

Haven't played since sometime around December. Was wondering if sPvP has had any meaningful updates. Played Ele, any links too current builds would be appreciated as well.

So now that I've got an 80, what should I work towards on gear (elementalist, usually I play as a staff-support role in wvw zergs or dungeons, occasionally d/d)? Upon hitting 80 I picked a rare cleric's set for now, need to learn how to farm the phat lewt to make money.

You can either make money by getting an Ascended amulet + 20% gold find infustion and run CoF endlessly, you can put together a Magic Find gear set and run around doing events, or farm Dragon Chests using the Dragon Timer website. I do the later, in an MF set, so I kinda get the best drop chances on the various event mobs I do at the Chest events. Northern Silverpeak also does Orz Temple runs, at 5 PM PST, which, in an MF set, is really good gold, once you memorize mob spawns and start tagging stuff.

As for what Elementalist gear, I defer to those that play the class.

depends what type of ele you want to be. Like I'm D/D (i think 30 into fire, 20 water, 10 earth, 10 arcane) and I run w/a bunch of vit/toughness gear. BUt also enough power/precision/crit dmg gear... I think i have around 30% crit chance and around 45% crit dmg

Does BG have any sPvP teams? I've been trying to get back into it but I keep finding myself leaving groups because some 16 year old wont shut up in chat.

I don't know if you want to say that you always ragequit when looking for a team.

I play but mostly pug. Been as high as like 850 but currently near 70% after some PZs stomped me down to reality all night.

Then you need to look at a different genre of games, MMOs are where teens go between blowing loads.
