I use it for solo/explore. Not groups. For groups I use Tome of Courage.

To be fair Guardian elites are all fucking boring to use and hella situational. I fulltime Courage but outside of groups I can't really hold it against anyone who uses Hounds.

Golem is actually much better than I would have expected. The AI isn't absofuckinglutely retarded like...just about every vidya AI ever, and it doesn't die in two hits.

Avatar of Melandru could be incredible if it wasn't for the bugged root ability. If it let you move as soon as the cast bar ended (instead of bugging out and rooting yourself in place for like 5 extra seconds) you could hit your elite, root people, put down a healing field (water), and remove some conditions if needed, then jump out of it to use your normal abilities on the rooted people.

Reaper of Grenth is pretty decent too and I'd probably use it more if it wasn't for the cast bar, kind of makes the situations in which you'd want the 30 second chill useless unless you're super fast. Makes it more of a preemptive thing, which I don't like.

Asura Defensive Golem is amazing. So many times I've used it so it can distract a Champion so I can loot the chest and run away lol.

Personally, I have 3 human characters, Ele and my alt Warrior and Mesmer. There is absolutely zero reason I would ever choose to use Hounds. With the single exception of if I wanted to CC something for a short time. Remember hounds have a knockdown special that can be quite useful against certain things. That being said, I have not even unlocked it on any character. I simply do not feel "wasting" 30 points for it is worth it.

Human racials are kind of meh all around. Dwayna is a decent heal but for some stupid reason you can't use it under water. Lyssa is interesting but a fundamental waste of a utility slot. Kormir is useful if you are looking for a situational Condition remover and aren't specifically specced to have multiples. Although the ability has too long a cooldown and has a cast time making it less useful than class specific condition removers. Melandru is awesome situationally, AOE roots, and healing is nice, but the aforementioned bug is annoying. Grenth is just meh compared to what you could be getting with a different elite.

The human skills have some pretty interesting toolbelt options; I'd seriously consider making a human engineer (when I get to that class) just because I think they offer the most variety in that regard. Asura being second most interesting by a bit.
