I think the movement to legalize industrial hemp faces much more of an uphill battle than the legalization of recreational MJ. BIG MONEY from a lot of different avenues are going to suppress that movement. Concrete/mining industry, timber industry, etc.

its mind boggling to me that all these companies that are afraid of hemp production for fear of cutting into their own profits, DONT FUCKING START AT GROUND ZERO and be the producer of it themselves

the same goes for oil companies who obviously control pretty much our entire government, why dont they actually go green and start putting research into solar and wind, i mean i know im just some nobody, but if your entire company is built on a nonrenewable resource, and you know that said resource will run out, and soon, wouldnt you want to continue to make money?

again, im just an ignorant nobody, what do i know

The cost is still main issue. Solar and Wind energy cost still remains high compare to other.

Then, these thing usually are location specific, and efficiency is not as high as expected. Some more, actually these shit still would do harm to environment (while it still green in other way) lol...

And finally is that, they do know the petroleum actually could still last at least another 50-100years. So, do they need to care?

Zip it, re: energy. Just keep burning that coal and gasoline. We will have more than ample biofuel options with cannabis when it's appropriately embraced and researched by our brightest minds. We'll wait a little while longer, angsty and impatient -- somethingsomething money and power.

Hempcrete is incredible (usually add 15-25% lime depending on the hemp started with), and the construction possibilities blew my mind away at this Hemp Expo last Sat. And even if fancy fabrics and textiles require a lot more diligent QAQC on the specific cultivar of hemp, we can nix the textiles mostly for now and go with the insulation/construction. Its insulation performance is superior, and any literally any remaining hemp compost/product will suffice. Textiles are largely a product of the eastern world, anyway, and the textile uses will be probably be the last/slowest industrial use to unfold in North America.

Canada is soo far ahead of the US on cannabis awareness (and other things..). Australia, Uruguay, some EU nations, too; Israel is actually really good with cannabis research and studying. A lot more hemp magic will continue to happen in Manitoba rather than Colorado for now.

The hemp coffee was delicious (and protein and fiber!?), the hemp ale was decent -- only made 1 keg with some of the first 55 acres of hemp harvested last year -- Ryan Loflin's crop. I bought a hemp beanie (it's really about a 70/30 hemp/cotton mix), snagged free soaps, lotions, art prints (hemp paper), and destroyed the hemp hearts (shelled hemp seeds). I got plenty of Manganese that day.

Start-up costs are probably too low, making the competition too high and the profit margins too small; vs. the current empires that can't barely even be touched.

Apparently Maryland passed the bill to decriminalize pot, but it has to go before our governor who has gone on record of being an absolute cockhead about the whole thing.

    Also this:

Pot killes puppies! Not the DEA agents who shoot dogs while entering a home.

And lastly, here are some countries doing some good work with some cultivar exploration, the key to understanding the crop and its immense and uniquely powerful variance -- eventually, helping various regions harvest the most apt hemp possible for their areas. Zimbabwe doesn't know wtf to plant, but man, they'd grow some serious hemp there too. The lush shit in Kentucky will have far less impressive cousins scattered in a Wyoming field.

Your chart on Hemp vs Cotton is the precise reason WHY it's not being used. More profit in cotton since it's not as durable and as long lasting. You don't want people wearing shirts for years, you want that shit to fray so they buy more shirts!!

I'd love to see a hemp t-shirt as soft as a high quality cotton one.

Both to prove the hemp-for-everything fanatics wrong if it doesn't exist, and to say "fuck yeah hemp" if it does.

Now, I never said that I think cotton should be discontinued altogether. I am willing to condone purchases for those with more sensitive needs.

The textiles lady there talking about the possibilities would blow your minds, BG, archie. She is a lifer with fabrics and clothing, with her mom making an empire last 22 yrs - obviously limited to legal materials. Factory in China, in Mexico. HQ in mtns, CO, USA.

Anyway, for the 3rd time or so, the textiles industrial use would be one of the last to be realized. It would take a non-US country with good farmland and cultivar understanding / apt genetics growing more meticulously maintained fields of crop -- a much more stringent plant product needed for the supersoft fabrics & archie's delicate nipples.

We can get insulation and construction material and seed oil (biggest use by farm atm) out of a far lower maintenance crop. Aaand we don't have factories here to take in sufficient product (and other materials too) to produce high-quality hemp or mostly hemp dresses.

I need to sit down with that lady again, but man, they know how to make the best clothes that aren't crap and fail burn tests and the like. They're eager to use hemp, but yeah that can't involve the US or even North America that much in today's world.

I remember a girl from my speech class bringing in a few hemp products for her speech, including a hemp shirt and I think a small hand towel. I can testify both definitely felt "soft enough". In fact, the towel felt extra soft to me.

I'm not into weed myself, but I do like how versatile hemp's uses are, and would love to see more products of it.
