Edit: This was approved last night. All this was is to make the city law match with the state law. Before in Minneapolis, possession was a misdemeanor with a 90 day jail term, while state law is a petty misdemeanor with no jail. Minneapolis cops would often use the minneapolis part of the law when dealing with minorties.

No the sentencing is different than the scheduling. Scheduling is just listed out the drugs and what is prescribed, what can be abused, etc. The moved from 1 to 2 is because it is prescribed but still considered abusable.

I'd imagine they work with family of drugs vs specific drugs within families since many designer drugs have similar structures but would require extra legislation to make each one illegal. Regulating families of drugs makes any new designer drug of the same family automatically illegal.

Crystal Meth was prescribed a long time ago for weight loss and other shit. I read that the pilots in WWII going on long bombing runs used to get a ration of meth to stay awake for the long trips.

Yeah. I am not surprised in the least. They are asking an agency to deschedule something that is a major factor in funding of the agency as a whole. Individuals within the agency also stand to lose up to and including their jobs if weed is decriminalized.

Unless there are massive randomized controlled clinical studies demonstrating the medical benefits of weed, it will stay Schedule 1.

The problem is it is hard to perform studies like that which meet the requirements while it is schedule 1.
