There doesn't appear to be any talk of changing the restrictive 0.3% THC limit for industrial hemp in this newly proposed bill. While 1% or 2% would be far more reasonable, I think this will eventually be no big deal once enough appropriate cultivars are available, although it's still a problem with hemp crops here. Even better would be a ratio between THC and CBD rather than a flat threshold of % dry weight. After all the latter cannabinoid tends to counteract psychoactivity from the former; if a hemp cultivar has 2% THC but 10% CBD, that is not getting anyone high. As per the 2014 Farm Bill though, that crop would have to be destroyed. At the very least we ought collect this biomass for meaningful use and/or research rather than banishing it due to lingering reefer madness misunderstandings.

There was a group of 6? people from Oregon that came over here with basically nothing, bought a plot of land in the region, and are trying to get it going. Then some old farmer dudes from the area heard them talking about it to my friends and started asking them about it.

The next time we went through the distillery our friends asked the bartender about the people from Oregon and she said they come by a lot and have orders already. Some of the farmers are looking into it now too.

The only problem I see is they are going to have a limited supply, so it's not something they can continue indefinitely since it relies on them getting more land or heavier equipment to get deeper and test the soil at greater depths.

A rural Estonian municipality has taken the final step in adopting the cannabis leaf as its new civic symbol, adding it to the official regional logo, flag and coat of arms, news outlets reported Wednesday.

Mayor Andrus Seeme said the leaf has been used as an insignia by local groups for decades. In fact, Reuters reported, "The name of the region, Kanepi ... is derived from 'kanep', the Estonian word for marijuana."

The plant has a long history in the region where more than 150 years ago Kanepi ancestors cultivated hemp and manufactured it into cloth, oil and rope.

Under Illinois' proposed new law, anyone 21 or older with a condition for which opioids might be prescribed could get near-immediate access to cannabis products at licensed dispensaries by presenting paperwork signed by their doctor. They would no longer be fingerprinted or need criminal background checks, or wait months for approval. The measure would reduce the backlog of applications, Harmon says.

The state's medical cannabis program currently has about 38,000 licensed users, who have been certified by a doctor to have one of 41 qualifying conditions. Many more people would become eligible under the new measure. More than 2 million people got opioid prescriptions in 2017.
