Server issues seem better so far since they put in a bunch of new servers but no telling how long that will last.

Has anyone managed to make a successful city specializing in Casinos? When I say successful I mean they are using something bigger than the entry level Casinos. If so what is the secret? It seems higher tier Casinos lose their ass in profits. I know you need to attract the corresponding wealth group to your city for the Casinos to be successful but I haven't had any luck.

I can't believe EA completely ruined Sim City. How can you be so fucking money hungry to ruin everything you fucking touch with always-online DRM, day 1 DLC, microtransactions, limiting features, etc. Fucking stupid.

I managed to have the sci-fi casino turn proftiable, but by the time I had the money to invest in buidling it up, I was nearly out of room to build around it, so it was only making around 9k compared to my two low-grades that were pulling 17-26k a day.

To make a true, pure-blooded casino city, I'm going to have to plan ahead for days and devote every bit of concentration to properly placing all forms of tourism travel; planes, ferrys, ect.

I starved it, only just built it to shut up the one advisor who thinks having no jail/police station in a city with zero crime is a huge mistake, and I was tired of the red text appearing in the notifications tray repeatedly.

Noted. Might end up demolishing my industrial and putting it farther away from residential to deal with pollution. Already got my power supply in the corner of the map for the same reason. Should have picked me a location that isn't a peninsula, would give me more breathing room.
First and foremost, ignore your advisors. They will only add to your deficit if you are in the red. Clinics suffice until you build upwards (higher density). If you built the Large High School, then that's a poor early investment. It's meant for a high density area. No one will use it for a long while.

Also, be creative with how you build your city. Not everything needs to be a grid.
kind of a grid, but a decent low density suburb.
    Using roundabouts

And if anything, go to simtropolis and get some mods for the game. Makes the game 100x better.

Honestly, now that most of the server issues are mostly fixed (save for cheetah speed still being disabled etc.) I don't think anyone can complain that it's a bad game. Honestly, the game itself is awesome when you can actually play it. Until today, getting to actually play it was the problem, and deserve all of the bad critique it got.

I'm sorry to say, but EA was partly right in that the game is so fun people don't want to log off. That's partly what I did, I didn't want to log off because the game was fun to play, and logging off means I might not be able to get on again.

Uzor confirmed for working at EA.

btw, Sim City was always great, not much has changed they just fucked everything up by shoehorning in online only. The point was never that Sim City was a bad game its just that MAXIS has yet to provide justification why this online only non sense was necessary in the first besides being DRM. This entire debacle just proves that DRM only fucks one person: the paying customer.

I don't think you'll get justification from MAXIS. Honestly, I doubt they're even to blame, it's far more likely EA told them to do it.

You're probably right but damage control etc

"EA does not force design upon us," she said. "We own it, we are working 24/7 to fix it, and we are making progress."

Design, no, but always-on DRM isn't necessarily design.

Besides, of course he'll claim responsibility if he wants to keep his job. Do you think he'll get to keep it if he say "it's not me. X person at EA told me to put it in"? Makes him look weak not only to the world, but to his bosses as well as any potential future employer. I'd take anything he say with a grain of salt in regards to this. Actually, I'd take anything in regards to this with a grain of salt.

Hes obviously thinks passing the blame and buck to your boss is an acceptable practice.

You suck it up like a man and in the back of your head know that everyone else knows that youre dealing with the cards and resources your boss (EA) gave you. There are instances where its legitimately there fault, but this is most certainly not one of them. All the evidence points to the contrary.

? You can design around DRM. Steam has proven that it by itself it isn't effective DRM and it's up to the developers to create it, thus despite Sim City requiring Origin to play it probably wouldn't stop pirates. Diablo 3's solution was always online then went on to sell amazingly well, a record for the series. Maxis decides to follow suit and designed their game to be online only. They made it impossible for a city (at least, very very difficult) to be entirely self sufficient. You're required to at least have 2 cities (minimum amount of cities in a region). Once this was established Maxis can try to sell us on the idea that singleplayer isn't optimal and therefore always online multiplayer is the answer (despite being able to play by yourself, albeit with 2 cities). It would be ludicrous for them to allow us to create 1 city regions (probably would have more land to work with too!) and have it be always online. It's still bullshit that we can't play offline, even with 2 cities, but that's the only reason I can see why they went in this direction with the series.

Working ... doubtful ... but even if they were, it doesn't mean my friend hasn't been bitching for hours about his server being full and not being able to play. He and I agree that the server situation will always be "broken" as long as you can't even play your region because its tied to a single server. That makes it a BAD game.

Even if it wasnt, the bugs lucavi mentioned make it a broken game.

Ever since they've disabled Cheetah speed I've found a different way to play the game. I kind of just have it running in the background while I'm browsing websites or watching a movie/show and I'll periodically check on it every few minutes. I've actually begun taking a look at the finer details and all the data I have available to grow my city sustainably and slowly. I look at individual buildings more carefully before adding expansions and think about how it will affect my city. Previously, I'd grow my cities extremely fast to get quick profits, often resulting in larger than necessary bills and expenses. Playing at a slower pace has definitely made me a better player. My new city is booming and making amazing amounts of money. I'm sure there's super efficient strategies and guides out there but I'd rather keep building city after city after city until I get it juussssst right. I still want my Cheetah speed back tho.

Apparently they really need to fix the way sims travel and the emergency services. Hopefully that gets patched otherwise glass box doesn't sound Tom useful.

Excited to finally install my game soon
