For those playing now, is there a way a friend and I could set up a private region so just he and I can build? We really want to get into the game once it's working, but not really looking to play with people we don't know and my understand was that anyone could come into your area uninvited.
If you make a region private I believe it becomes invite only. So you can still invite a friend without letting random people join.

Dont see why it should be hard to belueve though. It is pretty much online marketing.
Is there any way I can get a refund for this crap? Tried talking to live chat and they gave me the run around until they gave me a number to call in the morning. Going to assume they're going to say no as well.
It's a joke site apparently. That's where I found the claim regarding in-game advertising. But there have been reports of EA employees posting anonymously on sites like Ars, Kotaku, and NeoGAF trying to spin things in a more positive light during the initial launch woes, and some of those quotes do resemble actual comments I've seen made.
Generally speaking, refunds for video games are usually only given if the game is unopened. If you got it through origin you're not getting a refund. I dont think target is taking them back either, though if you rage enough in a store to the right person they might make an exception. Depends where you got it, but with most retailers if its opened the best they can do is give you another copy of the same exact broken ass game you dont want. I know the store can get fined pretty heavily at work if we allow people refunds for opened games. Is there any way I can get a refund for this crap? If you got the game on amazon contact them. They have been giving refunds. If you got it at gamestop or someplace else an amazon review gave a good way to get your money back(sorta)
Head to GS, say its not working and you want to trade it for a new one. You get a new one and just return that one to another gamestop or go to some other store(target, wall-mart) and get a store refund.
As the person above said, from EA directly your shit out of luck.
that shouldnt work at most places, if you return an opened one, most will open it before giving you a new one. it wont be sealed.

TL;DR: We all know it; we've all known it, and we all will know it in the future. Always-online isn't mandatory and a stand-alone experience could easily be made.
Spin, spin, spin, EA.
I'm sure it would be fairly easy to do a check without constant connection. If it's linked to your Origin account I don't see why anything else is necessary.
EA are lying pieces of shit who want to nickel and dime you at every possible moment, and only care about money. Nothing new here, FUCK EA.
From what I'm reading, the simulation is a lot more simple than had been described. Sims have no home and no job, at least not long-term. In the morning, they wake up, leave the house they are in, and go to the nearest job they are qualified to fill. Once that location fills, they move onto the next closest, on and on. If they do find a job, at the end of the day they will go to the nearest residence in their wealth group until it fills, then onto the next.
It's okay, they fixed the server issues so none of this is an issue.
You can do it on the grounds that you did not get the product you paid for but you'll lose your origin account. If you don't care just charge it back.
