I was going to say that I'd prefer them pull a Westwood, if anything, but that worked out terribly in the end, so no.

Time will tell.
so by your logic we keep letting the mack crap games? How many people are going to return it? no the better way is to not give them the money at all. anyone who bought it from EA wont get their money back no matter what. and more so then not your not going to return the product even after you did buy it.
so to answer the question you sorta asked, yes let sim city die if it stops SE from doing this again to the great franchise.
I loved sim city 4 and almost pre ordered 5(now im not even going to buy it)
If it prevents another anti-consumer catastrophe from happening so be it. It's not without precedent on consoles.
You've done that twice now. FF14 rage?
Anyway, can you guys not see what would happen if Amazon told EA they were not going to sell their products anymore because of the constant returns?
There's no doubt in my mind that EA can't survive off of origin sales, but if companies everywhere are starting to complain about selling their products, I think that would go a long way towards EA fixing their shit.
I know you and I have disagreed in this thread before, but as someone who does care about the state of SimCity and city builders in general, I have to say "So what?". Strictly speaking, who cares if SimCity dies, its just a name. There's nothing about this current game that relates it to the prior SimCities in anything but title. CitiesXL resembles SimCity4 more than this game does. What we all can probably agree that what we need is just a well made genuine next step evolution of city builders regardless of who makes it, because clearly the current team and/or management of this game don't care. The only virtue to a big company holding the lead in this genre is that *theoretically* they have the cash to create the thing we all want ... but clearly EA wants to keep every penny it can manage. If this game somehow does die off ... I hope that another company can take its place with something better. Long story short, EA nor Maxis have the exclusive right to make City games ... and maybe their downfall can lead to someone stepping in using EA's failure as a platform to get the needed attention and investments they might not have gotten before this embarassment.
I don't own it atm, though I may buy it tonight, but from what I understand you just lose functionality if you play in offline mode relating to Ark buffs and storage. Otherwise the game should be fully playable offline.
What Correction said is basically what I was going to say.
does it matter which server you play on? city is saved to that server? what impact does server location have?
EA and Activision just need to fucking burn in hell. Everything they touch turns to shit, and too many companies are selling themselves out to these shit publishers that ruin everything they touch. It's almost gotten to the point where the only games you can play that won't fuck you royally at every turn are indie games.
Looks like the online-only DRM is a gateway to anybody destroying your work:

whats drm
To be fair I saw that video a few days back. The mod claims it does zero damage to a given city.(its done offline) once you log back on everything is fine.
Still the person claimed it would not be all that hard to turn now mod into something that could deal real damage.
if anybody actually wants to play and not bitch, add me on origin, SonomaaBG, Im playing with ragns and having a decent time, havent had any issues (I skipped launch week)
also if you bought a physical copy, you can get a refund, if you bought digital, they arent giving refunds at all. Source: good friend works at EA support
Can you only buy this on Origin or can you get it on Steam as well?
I don't know what it is about some companies that look down on modding as if their product is perfect and any changes or additions that are not officially released are spawned from evil and will only hurt the game's "integrity".
I think developers and publishers should be humble enough to accept that their product is very rarely perfect upon release and by engaging the community to create and experiment with their base game, it only goes to enhance the experience of everyone involved. It builds a great relationship between the company and consumer because everyone feels engaged and extends the life of the product and retains fans years down the line after most people get bored with playing the regular game. Also it's something that's hard to stop once people have interest in it anyways, so why not take advantage of it instead of fighting against everyone?
I say fine, let those who want to play on a small map continue to play vanilla SimCity, but why shouldn't they let others colour outside the lines so to speak? This is a city builder, not city build-it-my-way. And the great thing is that mods are always optional, so they do not have an impact on those wishing to only play the original game.
I understand allowing certain mods in SimCity will skew leaderboards, but honestly does anybody even care about that? Why do they even have that? Also not to mention what about when further DLC is introduced, those who do not purchase will be officially at a disadvantage there.
I think the examples are numerous and the results have always been that having a modding community only goes to enhance both the consumer's and developer's experience.
