Lol at the Limited edition rewards...

A super hero's sanctum and an arch villain's lair. The hero will save your sims and the villain will start crime waves and recruit henchman. Gotta love Maxis even if they are EA's bitch.

Looking forward to it... the regions do seem a bit more neighborhoodish then cityish..but it if helps the game run better fine by me.

The multiplayer aspect seems pretty neat to.

There's an AMA going on with the dev team http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment...om_maxis_amaa/
Plenty of good info regarding the game, but mostly quiet regarding forced online and Origin.

They are getting blown the fuck up over the DRM.

I, too, am curious regarding whether or not I'll be able to play this once they shut the servers down. I don't see them keeping them up for 10 years, and we all know how long it takes them to make new versions.

I'm sure a crack will be out before the servers go down. Or fan run private servers.

Cant they just say.. provide an offical update which would make online not required at that time?

Till then i am fine with being forced to go online... its 2012, not 1992.

And, in their minds and words, people weren't pirating potentially millions of copies of games in 1992. To which I'd respond: "and millions of people weren't playing your game in 1992 either, so its somewhat irrelevant".

Regardless, its an issue that EA isn't going to back down from. They never listen to anyone, and, unless the game flops due to DRM (which it won't, even if it won't sell as much as it potentially could), they aren't going to take anything away from this other than "at least we're sure we roped SOME people into paying for a legit copy of the game".

Didn't Ubisoft say the same thing for AC2+? It took hackers a while, but they were able to emulate the server code or whatever after a month. I'm sure some kind of workaround will come about.

Ubisoft did say the same thing, and these guys either always underestimate the sheer talent of hackers, or figure the average person will find it all so complicated that they'll simply cave.

    Sim City 5 (2013)

Plus, Ubisoft did eventually get rid of their DRM.

Yeah eventually ea will realize its not worth the time and money because everything can be bypassed, just like ubi did. Game will be cracked, that is inevitable.

The problem is that game companies live in the 90s, think in the 80s, and act like it's the 30s.

Your average PC gamer isn't your console-gamer anymore. PC gaming has always thrived on freedom of choice, and yet EA and Activision seem to think removing that choice is going to make it "go away".

Really only read the last page, but SimCity was one of my favorite elementary school computer lab games. Unleash the giant monsters! Looking forward to this one.

For the DRM stuff: I always found the idea that "Most people will find it too complicated!" (in addition to the many other reasons companies endorse DRM) fucking stupid. The hackers who do these things usually do them so that they can share with other people, often people who have no real computer skills, just familiarity with the interface. As a result... the hackers make it user friendly. I've never seen a crack/mod/etc that was ANY more complicated than the game needed it to be. Most were just "paste into X folder, modify Y line in Z file to read as shown." or just run a special .exe

such as FFXI Windower. That thing was awesome, and almost everyone I knew who played on PC used it.

origin has a broad level crack that basically works for almost all origin games, similar to how there is a broad level crack for most steam games as well. it will be a day one pirated deal like everything else on origin and steam.

Update that EA announced they are currently accepting applications for the open beta next week.
Here is link to the site to sign up but the site is being mega glitchy right now.

Got my email tonight and just finished playing my first hour.

I like it. Honestly, i like it a lot. They addressed my frustrations with the old ones and seem to give you more ways to figure out what your citizens are pissed about.

The beta is very limited and only the "first level" of most buildings are available, though there are specific building upgrades you can buy to play with that. I really like the upgrade mechanic. There's better solutions for managing traffic than in any previous version.

Pre-ordered as soon as my hour was up. I have no doubts I will enjoy it.
