Edit: I should mention the email said this beta round is only going until Sunday night at midnight.

You can preorder from Amazon and they will send you a key pretty quickly. As per usual you can then cancel your preorder if you weren't ready to make the purchase yet.

The tutorial is a one time thing but you can restart it through the "Getting Started" option at the main screen if you are so inclined.

My wife did have one in her junk mail, so be sure to check those places.

Played another hour session last night, liked it even more. I do wish the region abilities were available in the beta, they go through them in the tutorial and what you see looks kind of cool. Basically any service you can build in your city can be shared (for a profit) regionally.

Ya exactly. It's disappointing you don't get access to the regional aspect of the game when it seems like it will play such a major role in the real game. Multiplayer seems like it will be a lot of fun because of that.

It's bouncing up and down really. My wife got in and started the tutorial, but there's a part in the middle where you visit another town - at that point the servers were down and she got kicked out.

Has anyone tried the active challenge? I was going to make an attempt. Last night there were only four people that had completed it. 150k citizens is a ton in an hour. Although the zones do seem to fill up substantially faster than in the old games.

The highest population I've reached is around 30k so if you manage to get anywhere near the challenge please come back and let me know what I'm doing wrong.

I'd really love to know how one could do this. I am still at a bit of a loss with how wide to create my zones. Unlike older simcities you arent zoning anything beyond the land adjacent to a rode. I managed to get up to 12k last night without trying, but its a bit hard to tell if I am wasting a lot of space while doing it.

It looks to me you have to build roads to match the grid, else you can't have back to back houses. My guess is that this gives room for them to turn into apartments or whatever once the density goes up. When the houses are first built there's a lot of wasted space bend the backyards, but any tighter of roads and two houses won't show up.
