Yeah I started trying to follow the "temporary" gridlines that show up. I got up to 45k tonight, I dont know how you'd get to 150k within an hour without having access to high density. The highest I got was "town homes".

    Sim City 5 (2013)

Can you only play it one hour at a time? Or one hour total?

Nah, I thought the same thing at first. You can play all the time, but you can only spend 1 hour per city, then you have to start over.

Fuck, I didn't download the beta because I figured one hour wasn't worth it

Here's a tip: apartments for poor people can hold a shit-ton more bodies than luxury condos for rich people, within the same amount of space.

The biggest cities, population-wise, aren't the ones with the highest land value. It took me awhile to learn that, as I always wanted a utopia city, without poor people.

^ That's pretty much the status-quo for all Sim City games. The largest cities in SC4 were basically high-density/low$ apartment matrices.

Its tough balancing density with land value. I want to increase the density of these low value areas, but every time I plop a park down, poof, it sprawls into a luxury hotel chain.

Im going to experiment with the single $ parks and see if that helps.

So far my best population has been ~33k in the 1h beta. 150k challenge seems impossible at my current "skill" level I guess, or maybe there's just not nearly enough time, or both. If it fun like the other SimCity games though. I also wish the cross-region stuff was there though.

Yea, the challenge currently is region-pop, so perhaps it's not possible to reach yet until we can build in the entire region.

Unless the cities don't grow at the same time . . then the problem is time.

Fuck poor people, bring in the dollas.

    Spoiler: show
Loving the beta, though the one-hour limitation does kinda suck.

Totally agree. The one hour restriction sucked but gave me enough of a taste to know I'll love it. This is crazy overdue but I think they got it right.

Whats the status on the DRM. Is it still planned to be always connected?

Ya, pretty sure it's not going anywhere. I don't mind it as I'm always on the internet anyways and I plan to mostly play multiplayer with the way regions work but I can understand it being a disappointment to some.

Yep. Just going to have to eat the DRM on this one until someone patches the shit out of it with a crack. This isn't like battlefield 3, where there are 30 billion other shooters out there. Cities XL is absolute garbage, Tropico isn't the same, and Sim City 4 barely works on modern-era graphics cards. Plus the game itself is pretty damned good this time around.

I don't like the idea of DRMing it up (to be shut down 6 years from now when they've milked the final expansion pack dry) or dropping $60 on it, but I have to get my cocaine fix somewhere and dammit, this is some good-ass cocaine..

The previous versions of SimCity forced you to design in certain ways, never forgiving with curves, diagonals, and other non-perpendicular grid designs. This version seems to have fixed that quite well (room for improvement when it comes to snapping and forcing perpendicular road layouts). So, if you are really into making custom urban plan layouts, this is your shit (re: my shit).

That may have made me want to buy this eventually. Not a day 1, won't have time for it. But dang it I enjoyed my structured suburbia. I think I made a decent sized city with low and medium density R and C only. Huge suburban sprawl but it was very manageable. I went really crazy with roundabouts and small streets to manage traffic. It also helped me so much with making a profitable mass transit system (bus and train primarily) that a great majority of my sims used. None of my other friends were able to make an effective mass transit like mine.
