I want to believe.
Timer is set to expire at noon. Can't wait to find out the news when I wake up.
So.. what's going on with this?

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...xheaderimg.jpgNope, we still don't really know what this Baldur's Gate announcement business is, but we sure do know it's name now: "Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition." Huzzah! As previously reported, Beamdog is working on the Baldur's Gate project, though the developer's Overhaul Games division is taking lead. Atari is handling publishing duties, and Wizards of the Coast is licensing its (D&D-based) IP.
From the few details we have, the project sounds an awful lot like an HD remake to us – especially given the fancier logo and "Enhanced Edition" subtitle. We've reached out to Beamdog for clarity on what the game actually is, and what platforms it'll end up on (among other things). For now, know that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will land on whatever those platforms are at some point this summer. We're gonna take a wild guess that it'll be on PC at the very least.
bla, what a tease. I'm happy with an HD remake of 1 and hopefully 2 though.
We already have BG1 Enhanced. It's called the tutu mod.
they just added an update

I think i'd prefer the hd remake ;/Update: Beamdog reps tell us that the team at Overhaul is adding "new, original content" to the original game to make up the Enhanced Edition. "This is the Enhanced Edition, it's not a repackage. We have the original source code and are doing a significant update," a rep said. He also confirmed that no platforms have been announced just yet.
They have stood by the 2/2.5ed rules used by BG1 and BG2. What they did say they would add would be additional content, which is most likely going to be new areas and new quests. They're promising more announcements next thursday as well, including platform announcements (so hello iOS port). Guessing we'll get the details then.
Question: I've never played Baldur's Gate but I like the Icewind Dale/Forgotten Realms campaign setting. I've been wanting to start a D&D group lately pretty badly but haven't been able to. Will this scratch that itch for me when it comes out, or does it really not have a lot of the same feeling as an actual game of D&D?
The original games scratched that itch pretty hard for me...
God I wish they would convert away from 2nd ed rules for these games.
out of curiosity are there any good 3/3.5 games? I've only played a little of Baldur's Gate as far as D&D games go.
Neverwinter Nights is 3.0, and NWN2 is 3.5... both are mediocre games with great expansions (Shadows of Undrentide is good, Hordes of the Underdark is excellent; NWN2's Mask of the Betrayer is REALLY well-written). I believe Temple of Elemental Evil was 3.5, but I never played it.
[e] Well, on NWN2, the story is pretty so-so, but the characters are great. Khelgar, Neeshka, Sand, Qara, and Bishop are great. Elanee and Casavir are very bland love-interest characters, and Shandra is Boring Plot Character. There's a gnome, Gobnar I think, but I didn't really ever use him. The first 5 there are great though. [e2] Oh, I forgot Zhjaeve; despite having some PS:T throwbacks she's boring
