Are you using an enzyme cleaner when you clean it? Nature's Miracle or something similar? Is the cat neutered? I've heard they don't like walking on tin foil, and they also make mats with a very slight electrical charge that will keep them away from that area. Never tried either myself though.

    half ounce per quart.

Tabasco sauce won't do anything imo. cat's don't try and lick the pee afterwards. and I have a feeling that's going to stain your floor more than anything.

try this, just do it several several times. Remember, even if you can't smell it, the cats still can. They think it's ok to keep going there because they smell it.

I tried researching it but didn't see anything about taking the actual smell out of the floor.

most animals don't appreciate pepper and how it burns the nose. it is to deter more 'accidents'.

i don't know what is in tabasco sauce, am assuming pepper of some kind since it is a hot sauce.

Throw them in the litter box and wrap it with this.

Had our little piss-bag spayed and she hasn't peed anywhere but in her box ever since. Changed her personality back to what it was before her very first heat. Playful, affectionate, eats better, a much happier cat in general. If your kitty isn't fixed- there's your problem.

check so there is no problem with the litterbox, like it having the "wrong" kind of sand or being in the wrong spot or just being too nasty. Cat perspective. My cat was misbehaving because the litterbox had a roof, once that was gone it was all good again.

I have 1 cat out of our 4 that poops on the floor right next to the litterbox, no idea why she does it >.> She'll pee into the litterbox (or on any plastic bag left on the floor anywhere in the apartment...), but when she poops she does it on the floor in the room where the litterbox is. Doesn't matter if I've just scooped/changed the litter or if it's a bit nasty from the other cats using it all day, and this 1 cat is the only one of our bunch that does it. Cats are just weird sometimes...

Girls on the left, boys on the right. Boys are neutered, but the girls are not (the surgery is WAY more expensive for girls).

I don't think this will work 100% of the time then as again they don't really sniff the pee. This is just an attempt at masking the smell. Better solution is to actually get rid of it.

then my point still stands. getting the smell out of the floor (ie vinegar) is going to do a lot more in the long run.

I do agree with those that say too to get it spayed/neutered if it isn't already. As that tends to solve a lot of urinating problems.

let me explain better. you will still have to neutralize the odor with your vinegar or whatever you decide to use. but, once you clean the smell and the cat persists and no reason can be found for the behavior (sick, mad about other cats, dirty litterbox, etc) a pepper spray will repel the cat away from the area.

cats smell around when they go to urinate, smell is a type of communication device for them. once it burns its nose on the peppers, it won't want to pee or even hang out around that area. i've used cayenne pepper in the past to keep the bitch of a old lady cat i live with away from my things when she is mad at me for being here.

ahh makes more sense. thanks. But for sure vinegar is the first step, and the pepper spray may not be even required after that.

I'm not sure if it's litter or not. He seems to use the box every now and then. It's just in the early morning (Like 3-5 AM) when he goes on the floor.

Also, how much of a role could age play in this? My cat is 14 years old so he's fairly old.

Is more than likely your answer right there. Cats are notorious for kidney failure when they are older. You should get those checked but reality is, there's not much you can do. When they start to fail cats have a harder time judging when they need to go (ie they might be heading to the box and just not make it in time), and stepping up into a litter box can also be difficult for them now and then.

I remember seeing a show with a dog that had kidney issues and it was recommended to just put puppy pads in their common peeing mistake areas and hope for the best. For your cat you could try this and just sprinkle some cat litter over them to attract them/give them something to paw at.

Bleh I hope that isn't it. It's only in one spot and not random areas of the house.

Try putting a box where the spot is.
