Word. I worked delivery a few years ago and $3-$5 was considered the reasonable (low) range for tips on a regular delivery - ie. not too far from shop, a few pies and maybe some sodas. If I'm bringing you 6 pies and a flat of soda, or it's more than a 15-20 minute drive from the shop I would hope for more. Worst tippers were always the people living in the fancy gated communities or 'rich' parts of our delivery catchment area. I remember delivering a $40 order to a huge house with a brand new Merc S-Class and Hummer H2...and being paid in exact change. No tip, nothing. In a bout of useless defiance, I trampled all over their roses which, in retrospect, probably made their gardener or landscaper angry or got them in trouble :/

I guess this depends on where you live. I am a server in Sioux Falls, SD... I make below minimum wage plus tips. Pizza delivery guys here make at least minimum wage plus tips and are reimbursed for their gas... if they even have to drive their own cars. Lots of pizza places here have company cars...
I always tip... My cabbie, my barber, my bartender, my server, my pizza delivery guy, etc.... But if by chance I dont have enough for a good tip to the pizza delivery guy, I dont feel bad, he makes more then me doing less work...

We were the only place that would deliver to some backwater areas, including a retirement community that usually took an hour round trip. I'd make just about enough on a tip to buy the gallon of gas that I used to get there and back. There was a delivery charge, but we didn't pocket that money, and my hourly wage was like $2. Oh and about 6 months into the job I blew out my entire transmission.

I'm sorry but I don't see why I should tip someone for doing their job. I don't get tips for making sure people aren't stealing shit. That's just my opinion on it.
