Think of Extraction like TF2's Control points, or Dominion without the Fortification/Resupply (from what I can tell, haven't fucked with it in customs).

Where the fuck are the small maps 343? Where? The only small maps in the current pool are Haven and Adrift, with Abandon being on the low end of medium. And what do they add on the first map pack? More medium to large maps! Fucking fuck give us a Midship, Lockout, or Ivory Tower.

    Yes, I'm mad.

    Please...

I am so fucking sick of DMR's it's ridiculous. I feel like Halo really lost its balance with the fact that they offered such high powered precision weapons to be available in any initial load out. They should have kept the classic assault rife/pistol combo. There are no longer any needs for power weapons in this game. Every game type, almost every map, DMR/Battle Rifle/Light Rifle/etc. initial load out bullshit is all you're gonna need. I may be venting here but idk, it just doesn't feel the same. I think load outs were a good idea but I don't think they should have taken them this far. Pick your pistol, pick your grenades, and the special abilities etc. But don't allow such long range, high power weapons to be available upon spawning.

I find the only thing I've been having fun playing lately is Oddball on Haven, over and over and over. It's a really solid match type and the primarily short range combat factor makes maps less of a long range territorial battle than other game types on other maps.

    Halo 4

I feel the opposite. It's harder for a team to come back from losing if all they have is assault rifles while they're being picked off from a distance.

At this point, it's about "who is the best shot," instead of "whose team was able to control certain points on the map first."

Did you play previous Halo's online? Because once you ran out of ammo (which was fairly quick) you either went back to your assault rifle or you found another weapon which was usually less useful than the assault rifle. Having a strong precision weapon for a long time was really rare. It would be the equivalent to holding onto a sniper rifle for a long time, it just doesn't happen because you run out of ammo or it doesn't respawn because you're holding it.

    Halo 4

I'm not sure how that contradicts what I'm saying.

I vastly prefer losing or winning from being the best shot as opposed to what team gets power weapons first anyways. There are still strong high ground areas to give your team an edge tactically. Plenty of close range situations where having an assault rifle or a shotgun is advantageous, and teams with weaker players don't get left at such a deep disadvantage from falling behind in the scoreboard and spawning with a fucking peashooter. Frankly, weapon balance is the one thing I've been most impressed with in Halo 4. Even the side arms have distinct and purposeful trade-offs that can be taken advantage of to turn the tide in a game.

Every "large" map except maybe Complex I feel like there is no movement when it comes to territory for teams when I play things like Team Slayer, BTSlayer, CTF (Duh), King of the Hill, etc. because there is no tactical advantage needed when you spawn with the best gun you can possibly hope for... it's stupid. I can spawn with a gun that I can kill anyone with at both far or near range? That's... not halo. Power Weapons are only ever temporarily good, because like I mentioned before, they run out of ammo quickly and are usually set at neutral zone areas. Also remember that not all power weapons that spawn are even desirable... I'm just so tired of long range DMR/Battle Rifle battles from across the map.

DMR/BR aren't power weapons, and they never have been. they're just way better at medium/long range than the AR, which is why they were scattered all over the place. maybe you were just bad at ammo conservation/spawn timing? you're the only person i've heard of who had a problem with ammo for the DMR/etc.

also, best weapon you can hope for? do weapon/ordnance drops just not exist?

the folks at 343 Industries detailed some other changes that are coming up next week for Halo 4‘s multiplayer. They note that SWAT has proven to be very popular, so it’ll be sticking around for at least another weekly rotation; however, FFA Throwback will be taken out, and replaced by Team Regicide.

“Team Regicide is an all-new game mode in Halo 4, and it is a much different experience from the FFA version,” the posting on Halo Waypoint notes. “The leading player from each team is crowned King and is worth a fixed 25 points to the other team; this makes protecting your King just as important as killing the enemy leader.”
    yay swat

I agree that Halo 4 is all about BR/DMR but i've been playing Halo since the Halo 2 days and i can tell you that it's always been that way. With the loadouts it's just removed the element of going and finding one which has it's pros and cons. One thing i wish for is resupply points because so often on bigger maps especially i run out. I find myself running over to where i've taken someone down rather than heading to a BR spawn point for the ammo.

One thing that is really grating on me is how weapons vanish in no time at all. Why the hell should my sniper or rockets disappear pretty much as soon as i die? Or the guys who i just killed who now i can't go and collect unless i'm right near them.

I'm really enjoying Halo 4 but i am seriously missing the tactical side to it. Weapon control, map control etc. I miss Halo 3

Team Regicide sounds cool. Trying to force people to work together is just not gonna happen i don't think though. People will be more concerned with killing the other teams king solo than working together and protecting their own. Might be fun with friends.

But that's exactly like any other team based game on Halo 4 when you are playing with a pick up group.

I do hate how quickly things despawn though.

    Halo 4

I do not miss weapon control on maps. All it took was the wrong idiot grabbing a power weapon to fuck over your team's advantage. I think that map control is still an important aspect of Halo 4, though. There are definitely points on each map that offer a distinct advantage to control.

As much as I hate everyone having a BR/DMR all the time, it really seems to me one of those things that come down to if every match I had non-shitty teammates (never) against a team that is close to my skill level (not too much better or worse, so almost never), then I could understand things like loadouts making a difference. However, since fair matchups are so few and far between, I don't think it really matters when one team is almost assuredly going to rape the other, regardless of loadout.

Also fuck fuck fuck weapons disappearing so quickly. And I do like the rockets now. Take a little more skill than previous iterations.

Also, what Hank said above reminds me of FFXI and getting all your spellcast shit in a row and having your ultra situational sets, then going to so many events in the game where nothing takes more than 10 seconds to die, or on something difficult somebody afks or wears the same set for everything. This is like Halo 99% of the time where what you have doesn't matter because your skill or their skill is going to nullify virtually any advantage anyone has.

343 should imo make BR LR Carbine the three "precision" weapons and have DMR be ordinance spawned. Evens out loadout choices nicely with 1 rifle per race, emphasizes map control for holding DMR spawns and allows for more creative map design.

While the DMR isn't a "power" weapon per say, it is very nearly there. If you look at any of the other rifles, they all have drawbacks: BR/Carbine fall off in effectiveness at longer range, BR has recoil and reticle walks up, Carbine has fastest kill time but requires more shots to kill, LR has a slow rate of fire and insane flinch when scoped ect. DMR has almost no drawbacks to using it. Near perfect accuracy at any range, decent rate of fire, negligible bloom, low flinch when scoped...its very, VERY good.

DMR/BR aren't power weapons, and they never have been. they're just way better at medium/long range than the AR, which is why they were scattered all over the place. maybe you were just bad at ammo conservation/spawn timing? you're the only person i've heard of who had a problem with ammo for the DMR/etc.
Obviously someone never played Halo 2. Before MLG made the (imo) retarded rulechange to spawn everyone with a BR, and in almost all slayer MM variants, BR spawns were camped and controlled religiously. I even remember making it a point to hold onto my empty BR until my team gained control of the spawn areas just so it wouldn't respawn early. Ammo is never a problem with the DMR because everyone uses it, though on maps like Rag where you can DMR kill from over half the map away, yeah picking up ammo can become a problem.

also, best weapon you can hope for? do weapon/ordnance drops just not exist?
On certain maps (Complex comes to mind) ordnance drops really do become a non issue when most spawns are in the open and visible from the two rooftops: its very easy to have two-three DMR shots on someone spawning before he even knows what's going on.

I really hope MLG doesn't fuck with the weapon spawns/availability too much when Halo 4 starts in circuit, the ordnance selection they had at Dallas was pretty balanced and varied; I really don't want to go back to the days of Human Weapons only, BR start, Frag Grenades only...yawn.

I hope they put in some Random playlists in eventually. I realize that it's not at all balanced but for somebody who plays the game to just have fun, nothing is more fun than doing a map you don't know very well and spawning with random weapons every time. Some of my best times 4-player split screen have been had whilst doing random weapons. Not about skill, just about blowing shit up and having fun.

I agree that they need more small-medium maps. Getting really tired of Haven being the only map I can use AR/Suppressor on effectively.

I honestly feel like Haven and Valhalla (not even from Halo 4) are the only two really solid maps that this game has going for it.
