So one thing that confuses me. If they're doing what 90% of superhero movies seem to do for their first movie and the villain is basically "bad version of hero" which you can briefly see in one of the trailers of two fighting, then what is even the point or draw of Cassidy? Like I'm sure given good writing Harrelson could do an amazing Carnage but if we already got Symbiote vs Symbiote, then.... why?

Kasady is a mid-credits scene tease for a sequel. The film's only symbiote villain is

And that is towards the very end with a plot hole twist. Most of the film is world building and dropped storylines due to cut content.

Rotten tomato audience score is 89% right now. That's a pretty big discrepancy between what's been said about it thus far.

This is one of those movies that I am completely ignoring online reviews and will just judge for myself. There are way too many people that would give this a bad review without ever seeing it, based on Sony/MCU stuff.

But I'm assuming I'll be disappointed because it very much should have been rated R.

Theres been plenty of "good" reviews too. But they all seem to boil down to, this movie is a hot mess, but I had fun anyway largely thanks to Hardy.

I liked it. Worth a watch. Definitely some negatives and you have to start turning your brain off closer to the end and it definitely feels like there are scenes missing, especially when it comes to character motivations as the final act starts ramping up. More specifics later tonight.

Alright. I liked this movie.

Venom/Eddie banter is great. Genuinely funny most of the time. Action was good most of the time as well (excluding the motorcycle chase. That went on way too long and there was a really stupid element to it that just made it eye-roll worthy.)

1st act is Brock getting the symbiote. It does most everything good here. It feels like an action comedy actually for most of this.
2nd act, to avoid spoilers, lets just say its bad guys versus venom, which is fine until it gets near the end of the act. This is where it feels a lot of stuff is missing or at least I hope a lot of it is on the cutting room floor because if it's not, there's some really really really bad character development/motivations going on here. Tonal shift seems to happen at the start of the arc as well. I said "What?" and "Why?" a lot here.
3rd act; Seen the majority of the other Marvel movies? Well, it's pretty much the same here as it is in all of them.

So the director said this movie was never intended to be rated-R? I call absolute bullshit on that. You don't have a character bite off SEVERAL heads throughout the movie and make it a necessity for the character if you're going PG13. And somehow there is like no blood in this movie, like at all. And the word "shit" was said like a dozen times but no freebee F-word. It's like they overreacted to trying to NOT make it R.

No one is going to say this is a great movie, but I don't think it's bad. Like I said, I enjoyed it enough not to regret buying a ticket and I do hope this is successful enough to make a second (better) movie.

I'm going to spoiler this but it happens at the very beginning of the movie so idk if I'd consider it one or not.

Venom origin starts out almost exactly like it does in the Fox animated series spiderman and I liked that since that's where my love for spiderman began- Shuttle is crashing to earth with the symbiot(s) aboard. The one surviving person's name is Jameson - as in son of John Jonah Jameson (though all it is is likely an easter egg since the character is never heard or seen from ever again.)

Just got back from the cinema. I felt the first act dragged a little bit too much, but after that I enjoyed it quite a bit. Hardy/Venom banter was really funny most of the time, so yeah, I wished we'd get to that earlier

I definitely enjoyed it. I watched it in IMAX 3D and really there was only one scene that was decent in the 3D department. Tom Hardy played well and was pretty funny at times.

But yeah, movie's really enjoyable and I do hope we actually get a Venom/Spider man cross over. Assuming this does well enough and Hardy wants to continue. I know he didnt seem pleased about all the cut content.

I really enjoyed it. This is far from the best superhero movie ever made, but if you go in just to have a good time you won't be disappointed. Eddie/Venom was a lot of fun to watch, and venom was surprisingly likeable as a character. You can definitely tell they chopped bits off this movie off before pushing it to release, but i think its still a great watch even then.

Just got out of it. It’s an average movie that entertains that really should have been a great movie that entertains. The highlights really are the interactions between venom and Eddie.
