Honestly I used to go with Ryko to a lot of smash shit, and I have to say that I'd have avoided it myself. That community has a lot of butthurt already without them feeling like they have a RIGHT to mistreat you.

There is a severe lack of females in the smash community, but from what I understand there women that place in melee but not so much in brawl. Apparently some girl came second in a 70 man tourney for Brawl last year though.

Defining it as a fighting game is an argument of semantics. I was using it as an example on the discourse of tournament play. Fighting game or not, there is tournament play for smash, and while I love items in my game I cannot deny that there is a skill based dynamic when items are turned off.

@Rest of thread: There's also the fact that competitive gaming is a completely different subculture from mainstream/at-home gaming and is pretty much ass in and of itself. I went to one of those fancy little Starcraft 2 national tournaments once and wanted to Columbine their shit after only 2 hours of superficial contact with the dregs that attended and competed in such events.

Like this one dude who had an interesting habit of berating and objectifying his wife while they were both entered and played on the same team. Typical wannabe-Alpha "Abuse my woman in front of all these Betas who wish they had one to prove my superiority" type. The chick was equally annoying in how she treated the ass-burger Betas who kept trying to talk to her though so I contented myself with seeing them knocked out in the second round rather than whiteknighting her shit. It's not like it's some random anyways, it's her husband. She can handle her own matrimony.

Re Women in gaming: Vaginas stand out. So do Brazilians and the French. Even though 95% of the gaming community is terrible at vidya, because these groups stand out it's easy to notice their presence or lack thereof in the top 5%. Women in gaming also represent a serious flaw in the masturbatory logic that many socially inept nerdfucks use to keep their precious little egos afloat while still being socially inept virgins. That is to say, they believe that they don't have a girlfriend because there aren't any girls on the internet or in vidya who they can "take seriously". Now, it is true that there is a gender disparity among gamers, especially competitive gamers, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was 10 years ago and it's only getting better.

These socially inept, misogynistic fucks can't handle the fact that their worldview is crumbling around them. They don't want to accept the fact that the reason they're single, lonely basement dwellers is because of a problem with them and not a problem with women. They viciously defend their precious little cardboard cutout that they call reality because, when forced to deal with the real thing, they break.

Sounds kinda familiar, actually.
