I'd read where it mentioned Georgia in one article and northern alabama in some local stuff, but that was early after the solar flare originally happened.

    Also, it has happened before.

We had a lot of radio trouble at work on thursday, but that's about it. It wasn't even major radio trouble, we've had much worse.

dont worry, we're not even in the peak of the solar cycle yet which isnt till next year. Still lots of time for auroras and power outages and death.

Lol, me and a couple other BG minecraft buddies all had weird dreams when the solar flare hit. I personally had nightmares starting around the time it hit (didn't realize it till i saw the news the next morning, but i woke up from the first one at 4 AM and the flare hit around 3 AM so yeah.) both nightmares were weird because i A)pretty much never get nightmares and B)it was the first time i managed to actually defeat a nightmare. Usually I just realize it's heading to nightmare territory and make myself wake up to abort it, but this time i somehow took control instead. First one by managing to actually shout a warning to the others in the dream (you know how you normally try to scream a warning and nothing comes out but a faint hissing of air?), which then let me fight back, and the second time i summoned some lions to defeat the evil crows some enemy magician conjured up.

Which, come to think of it, considering the first nightmare was a snake and the second was crows, is even more unusual because i only have nightmares of my parents coming to get me, tornados, or spiders. I've never been scared of a crow in my life, lol.

Anyways, it made me wonder: since the earths magnetic field, although weak (i think around 31 microtesla?) is several orders of magnitude stronger than the field generated by the brain (around 1-10 nanotesla), is it possible that changes in the earths magnetic field by say, a solar flare hitting it, would cause subtle and unpredictable changes in a person's thought patterns? I mean, I know it's possible for magnets to change the way you think, as powerful magnets around 1.5 tesla are used to treat clinical depression, but I'm wondering if a weaker field like the earths also has a minor effect.

It's funny you should say this because lat might I woke up to a dream about a haunted house type thing that I was puchasing, in which the ghost was a ghild. This was odd because a: I do no believe one bit in gosts, angels, demons, or anything of the sort (gnostic atheist) and B: because I have not had a re-collectable nigtmare in umm... obviously longer than is re-collectable

    @Magnet therapy
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_therapy

Magnet therapy, magnetic therapy, or magnotherapy is an alternative medicine practice involving the use of static magnetic fields. Practitioners claim that subjecting certain parts of the body to magnetostatic fields produced by permanent magnets has beneficial health effects. These pseudoscientific physical and biological claims are unproven and no effects on health or healing have been established.[1][2][3] Although hemoglobin, the blood protein that carries oxygen, is weakly diamagnetic and is repulsed by magnetic fields, the magnets used in magnetic therapy are many orders of magnitude too weak to have any measurable effect on blood flow.[4]

A 2002 U.S. National Science Foundation report on public attitudes and understanding of science noted that magnet therapy is "not at all scientific."[20] A number of vendors make unsupported claims about magnet therapy by using pseudoscientific and new-age language. Such claims are unsupported by the results of scientific and clinical studies.[17]

The worldwide magnet therapy industry totals sales of over a billion dollars per year,[10][15] including $300 million dollars per year in the United States alone.[13]
    More like idiot magnets.

Secondly, sleeping near an electrical wiring is going to have more influence on your brain than any of this solar eruptions.

    [edit]
And by more, I mean that sciences never detected anything.

Yeah, jinnula said that the same thing happened to him too, that he actually had a dream he remembered for the first time since he could remember.

Of course, 3 others said that they didn't recall any dreams, so that's why I was wondering if it is a possible result of the flare and just doesn't affect everyone the same way or at all, or it was just coincidence.

You got the wrong magnet therapy. I'm referring to Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, not those lolmagnet bracelets.

And electrical wiring gives off about a few milligauss a foot away from say, a ceiling fan, while the earth's magnetic field is .5 guass, quite a bit stronger than the wiring. <_<

KONY2012 is the hot shit right now. Next year when the flare is actually closer to earth, solar flare mania will drop. Fuckin social media causing a panic sometimes.

The solar wind usually reaches Earth with a velocity around 400 km/s, density around 5 ions/cm3 and magnetic field intensity around 2–5 nT (nanoteslas; Earth's surface field is typically 30,000–50,000 nT).
The Carrington Event of 1859 (described later in the report) was measured at -1760 nT (Lakhina et al.,
2005). The Carrington storm was approximately three times as intense as the most severe
geomagnetic storm of the past thirty years, the 1989 storm responsible for the Quebec power outage
(also described later in the report). This geomagnetic storm registered at a Dst of -640 nT (Lakhina et
al., 2005). The 2003 geomagnetic storm referenced in Figure 1 peaked at -410nT. No recorded
geomagnetic storm since 1932 has exceeded -760 nT (Cliver and Svalgaard, 2004).
You're looking at an event that is order of magnitude inferior to what your brain normally receives. Turning your head in a different direction (north to south for example) is going to have a bigger impact on you than the fluctuations caused by that storm itself.

Of course, the impact of magnetism on the brain does exist. Migratory birds for example use the Earth's magnetic field to orient themselves, but these fluctuations aren't significant compared to the Earth field, and it's even further from TMS magnetic field.

It's 10000000 times weaker than what cause a noticeable effect in medicine, and the conditions are completely different (It doesn't fluctuate as fast).

If you want to pretend these magnetic storms have an influence on your nightmare, feel free to do it, but it's retarded. It's way too weak to have any kind of impact.

    [edit]
Also, a compass is going to reorient itself around a wire. If the field is strong enough to turn the needles, it also means the magnetic field around that wire is stronger than the Earth's field.

    [edit2]
It's the same deal with magnets used in magnet "therapy". Their strength is far superior to the storm's fluctuation. If you think that magnet therapy is bullshit, you should say the same thing about your nightmare-theory.
