Computer randomly losing power.

Since last night my PC has been having a problem where it just shuts down on it's own without warning. Sometimes only parts of it seem to shut down.

So far I've had 3 instances of this happening:

1st Instance
Monitor was black and my LED was orange indicating it wasn't active. Thought the PC was in sleep mode since no lights on the front were on. However when I looked at the side case the LEDs on my fans were still active. Could do a forced shutdown with the power button.

2nd Instance
Entire PC just went offline. Screen went black, all my hardware had no power, and the PC wouldn't respond to me hitting the power button. Not sure what made it go back online.

3rd Instance
Same as second. This time I turned my power strip on and off to see if that would do anything (which it didn't). Took my side panel off to inspect for any loose connections (Which I didn't have, don't see how I would either since I never did anything to my system prior to this). Also unplugged/plugged my power cable back into the power supply and switched it on/off. Was able to boot up after tinkering with the power system.

Any ideas on what could cause this? Friend says it's either the CPU, Motherboard, RAM, or Power Supply. For quick reference this is what I have for hardware in those areas:

CPU or Overheating seem to be the case.

Faulty RAM usually results in beeps at startup or hangups during normal operation / BSODs.

Faulty CPU computer would not boot.

While Overheating seems like the obvious cause, I don't think that could be it. In the 2nd/3rd instance my PC wasn't running hot at all. On the 2nd instance I was online watching a YouTube vid and in the 3rd I wasn't doing anything and then it just went off after I came back.

I'm no expert, but from the sound of it, it seems to be a motherboard issue. Possibly northbridge or CPU socket. Not sure of the quality of the ASRock mobos.

Bleh that's what I was afraid of. So need to replace that and my video card it looks like ><

I am almost sure it is the powersupply shorting out. If you have any spare ones try swapping it out and see if it still gives you issues. Even though that's one of the better PSU's available, anything could have happened to it.

Recommend that you try to find a PSU tester and make sure its not the cheaper component before you go out and buy a new mobo. I have an old analog one that you plug the lines you want to test into and it'll light up if it's working properly (with the PSU plugging into an outlet of course). Specialty tools like this are nice to keep in your toolbox since you never know when a friend will need it or when you'll build another comp/run into this problem again.

DLed a monitoring program and while on XIV my levels were a tad high, but in the acceptable range. CPU was in the low/mid 70s, GPU was in the mid/high 80s.
