    Memory leak or?

So every time I have FFXI up for more than two hours- I'm hitting major lag points. Close completely down and restart- and I'm fine again- for about two hours or so.

I'm thinking something has a memory leak but any suggestions on how to pinpoint it?

Major lag as in Windows itself beings to drag, or is it just graphical for FFXI?

Do you get a Windows is 'out of Virtual Memory Error'?

Use Task Manager, check RAM usage for individual processes after you just started XI, ~30min later and then again (without closing anything) when it starts lagging and see if there is a major difference.

No out of vm message; and in watching the resource manager the other day it ended up doubling before I shut it down.

The lag is in game; every five (almost on the dot) seconds I stagger. As I've been NIN/DNC solo'ing lately, the lag is a pain.

It's definitely some kind of memory problem, either with:
    a. your RAM memory
    b. your on-board GPU memory

I would guess that it's your RAM. If you are familiar with Memtest, run this on your system to diagnose a problem with your computer's RAM. Here's a link if you need Memtest, but most motherboards now have it built in.

If Memtest comes out fine and you are still having issues, I would recommend taking out a stick of RAM at a time, testing FFXI. If it continues to do it, add the RAM back, then remove another, and so on.

There could also be issues if you are using different kinds of RAM. I.e. one stick of x and one stick of y, two sticks of z, etc.

Thanks I will give that a try. The RAM is the same, as I built the computer myself. My guess is that it's just a few years old and is ready to be upgraded, so all my new toys match.

ETA: Running the program and 119% with no errors so far.
