Henson Studios are getting back into feature films with The Happytime Murders, a kinda sorta Roger Rabbit sounding thing in which a puppet detective investigates the brutal murders of other puppets. Here’s the official plot blurb:

In a world where puppets co-exist with humans as second class citizens, puppet private eye and disgraced ex-cop, Phil Phillips, is hot on the trail of the serial killer who murdered his brother and is now targeting the cast members of the famous 80s television show, The Happytime Gang.
As the killings continue, Phil’s former flame, Jenny, is next on the list. It’s up to Phil and his ex-partner, Detective Edwards, to find the culprit, but as bad blood and old resentments resurface the clues start pointing to the only viable suspect, Phil himself. Now he’s on the run with only his wits and hard headed determination, as he tries to solve, The Happytime Murders.

That comes from the website of IM Global, the film’s sales agent. They also have a couple of concept art illustrations, one of which shows Phil, the other of which might contain some minor spoilers, which I will then discuss. So, proceed at your (mild) peril.

The thing is, it seems so much in style like her other comedies, which is so far from the tone of the original pitch from 6 years ago, that it seems like she may be responsible for a rewrite.

I thought every part of the trailer not involving her was funny. But she's starring in this, and from the sounds of Cantih's comment, she's also steering this, which is a bad sign for all the footage we haven't seen yet.

I was actually being silly since they are both Henson that you were technically right, a Henson does love it, just not the dead one!

I like the tagline, but I kind of understand where Sesame Street is coming from here. Being a childrens' educational program and all. I don't remember if Avenue Q tried to associate itself in any way with Sesame Street (aside from the obviously parody title) but that would have been an equally bad idea.

Sadly, from the trailer I think this movie looks like it's trying way too hard to be funny and I don't like puppets to begin with so I probably won't see it.
