    Lol...

It just shows what kind of person you are. Can't accept responsibilities of your own actions. Just let some one else pick it up, who cares.

If you have to borrow don't borrow so god damn much. Compare schools and don't overpay for your education.

ITT: we make our own moral high-ground.

Who says they aren't taking responsibility? 7 years of shit credit is them taking responsibility for their actions. It's a clear weighing of options

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

My husband went to AI for animation (3D rigging) now works in films because of it (and has worked with a lot of his classmates from AI). Claiming people can see the future over being able to pay their student loans is just silly.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think some people need to do a lot more effort in getting ANY job once out of college so they can pay their debt (hubby had to work at Best Buy for about a year and a half before getting his first gig), but my point is you are acting like they should have had a crystal ball for their future on whether they could afford their loans, and that's dumb.

The banks who loan out the money have no morals, so I wouldn't really fault anyone for bending them over to pay for their education. It'd really suck to have a degree and no credit, however. Especially with a lot of employers putting potential employees through credit checks.

Except for the part where no amount of responsibility will allow him to pay it. You really cannot pay bills with responsibility, no matter how much you want to.

ya, I am kinda curious of what work (if any) the OP is doing. Also how old he is. Not that he has to give that out, but really there is no reason to file for bankruptcy over $1700.

Never understood credit checks on hiring an employee. But I do agree with you about the banks being at fault but it is also on the person as well.

I get what people are saying about not knowing if you can pay the bills after you are out of college.

I just can't fathom ever doing that. Hell if I were to get my Masters right now I would never borrow money on it, that is me though.

On a more serious note, yes bankruptcy in this case is stupid...$1700? I'd personally just ignore it, the chances of them suing you over $1700 is miniscule, and infact if they've already handed it over to a debt collector, near nil(this varies by state, but from my recollection, debt collectors can't sue you in many states for money owed, only the original creditor. So once it's been handed off, you're safe). In most jurisdictions, you have a right to settle debts only with the original creditor, not with any 3rd party.

Even ignoring that, Bankruptcy closes a LOT of doors to you, there's jobs, positions, programs, and visas, that you are automatically disqualified for, for having ever declare bankruptcy.

    Must be nice being rich.

Most people however can only choose between taking loans or not going to college.

You got me, I am out of control rich.

With debt collectors even if you are taken to court you can usually settle for pennies on the dollar with the lawyer representing them. Talking to them though is like banging your head against a 2x4 with a nail in it.

You obviously have more money than most, if you can afford to pay for college out of pocket.

That is the interesting question at this point in time. Is OP still in school and that is why they can't afford more than 15-20 a month. Otherwise, working full time? If so, definitely should have more than that a month.

Again, as I said in my first post, the minimal payments offered as a plan was rejected, and rightfully so. As much as being in collections sucks, those aren't even good faith payments.

I think their shitty reasoning is that a person with bad credit is more likely to steal from you. Of course, me and my coworkers with bad credit/debt are much more likely to put up with crap at work for lower wages just because we need the money that bad.

Well after reading this I don't plan to file, a lot of helpful advice in here, especially the link a page that gave me a template letter to send to W&F requesting proof of the debt and all that along with statue of limitations. I'm not sure if should contact them or not still, I need to still go over the paperwork and make sure for the 10th time I didn't miss anything major.

As far as my age i'm 28, I work in construction right now with my future brother in law and father in law but work slows down to nothing from November to May where the most I get is maybe $60-$150 a week. At its high point during summer I can bring home $300 a week from June to August before classes start up again and take 75% of my time.

The art degree was put aside, I'm working on a network engineering degree for the past year and i'll have it in one more semester while trying to get government clearance this spring and doing internships through my college. As far as the guy who bitched about me going to Art Institute, there were a lot of life factors that contributed to that, one being that my father had just died at 40yrs old and I didn't want to just up and leave my mom and the rest of my family so I chose instead to look into online colleges. After a year I realized they were fucking me over on how much they were charging and how long I would need to stay in college with them and decided to cut out right then and there.

I realized the market was fucked for art degrees/3d animation so I jumped ship to a more central IT field.

And like others have said, i know these loans are mine but the banks arnt exactly care free angels who look out for my best interest 100% and care about me as a person, that I would feel upset if I fucked over. The banks would gladly throw me under the bus, repossess anything not nailed down and watch me live in a van down by the river.

Taking the moral high road doesn't exactly feed me.

Grow the fuck up and pay your shit.

Better yet, don't take out a fucking loan.
I had no idea Mitt Romney posted on these forums. Have you looked at how expensive college is? Sorry but my mother/stepfather make a combined maybe $15k a year, my dad is dead, where exactly should I look towards for help while each year tuition and all expenses rise a nice big chunk.

I get where you're coming from on your opinion, but I would say a good 90% of college students wouldnt be in college if they couldn't take out loans and had to pay out of pocket....there would be a lot more college strippers though too.....

This is your problem. When someone suggests you pay your loans, you ask who you can get the money from? Shit man, if you need to work 200 hours per week to pay them off, then you better work 200 hours per week.
