Yes 200 hours a week. I could pay my tuition in college from my side job. You know what my side job was? Cleaning pools, a seasonal job. It was rough.

Listen I get it, some people will never agree with me. It is rough to pay your tuition. I was presented some opportunities to make more money and in other instances I made my opportunities.

No idea, especially since you can't get government assistance because you make over their benchmark on most things.

I think their reasoning is that the person in question is not responsible with their money, takes on undue risk, in general doesn't handle themselves well, and expects others to bail them out when they fuck up.

Yes, look outward for any and all help for yourself. The government should pay for it! My parents should pay for it! Those dirty evil banks should pay for it! I should gain from someone else's resources. What can others do for me!?

I'm not naive and I don't profess to stand on a giant pedestal atop mount st. moral high ground. I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect people to seriously think about things before borrowing money. Yes, there are very clear cases where bankruptcy is the correct solution, is completely warranted, and totally acceptable. Taking out a big loan when you barely make anything to go to fucking art school is not one of them. It's wasteful and irresponsible. Taking out 60k to go to grad school (Which major btw?) then purposefully defaulting on it is just insolent. For all of the people so against banks, this type of activity is exactly the kind of shit they pull. You have no right to complain if you're doing the exact same shit. The bank is just going to pass on any loss from this to the customer anyway.

Weigh your options BEFORE taking out a loan. The community college that I'm currently attending before transferring into a university is very affordable while I work a part time job. Yes, I had about 5-6k saved up before jumping into it, but when I get residency next term it will be much easier to handle. I will have to take out loans when I do transfer, but I believe I'm going into a field that has a fairly solid future. I completely respect the arts and humanities, but I don't believe anyone should be going into that if you can't afford it. The population is saturated with people that consider themselves graphic designers. You're not special. You're in a dime a dozen field. You don't get a nice cushy job in the art field just because you went to school. There is so much more to it than that.

I never went for graphic design, I went originally for multimedia and transferred into 3d animation. When I entered the system it was a very promising career, which changed completely when the economy took a nose dive and washed out 90% of the jobs. I don't blame anyone, it was shit luck, but I did research it before going in. To say that if you can't afford college you should consider not going is bigoted. Every child in this country is told that in order to get anywhere, it requires hard work and a college education yet a college education in cost is rising more and more every year without a cap in sight. The fault doesn't sit with the people who want to go to college, as in my situation and others, some parents just don't make enough to afford to send their kids to college, which should their children be punished for that?

That's just getting into a huge debate though so I will agree to disagree with your viewpoints on the subject as our backgrounds and situations are more then likely completely different.

Graphic design wasn't targeted specifically at you. I've dealt with a number of graphic designers that have gone to school for design and end up getting a shit pay job at a sign shop while (usually) being unhappy with their current position in life. I probably don't know enough about your situation to really have a strong opinion. The rant should be/was directed more at the general situation and really arose from the 60k grad student default bullshit.

Er...life isn't fair? Not everyone gets the same opportunities. It isn't really a punishment to not have billionaire parents that can buy anything you want.

Sadly they did a study in California, with current tuition and available money for scholarships and what not, it is now cheaper to go to a college like Yale or Harverd then it is to go to a Cal State UC like Berkley or UCLA.

You guys need to figure out if I am Santorum or Romney. What if I am a new GOP candidate!

I am glad we have so many Donald Trumps in this thread though.

Quick question, how much was your school annually?

I have relatives that live in a podunk town in Northern Pa. They make combined about 14k a year. It amazes me that they are able to survive. He also poaches throughout the year to cut down on food costs. No I'm not kidding.

The Appalachians here in Tennessee, Smokey Mountains, are well known for their poverty.

Poaching is also big up there as you could imagine.

Hell I am surprised Tyche isn't poverty haha, he lives in KY

The kids of people who live on a combined 14-15k per year are clearly not cut out for college (Art School? In this economy!?) to find a future career.

Bad decisions are bad. Insanely expensive rip off with questionable potential in a country that is looking more and more like Afghanistan every year. Even worse, you didn't even finish what you started so every nickle dropped on it is already wasted.

I realize "blah blah BUT THE AMERICAN DREAM!"

Your parents make 15k per year so you think you can make 150k per year if only the evil corporations wouldn't make you pay for your education. Gooo sense of entitlement.

The dream is a lie to sell you to the banks and collections agencies, and they got you hook line and sinker.

PS Come live in Canada. It's not free but it's fairly priced. My whole degree cost about $12k and I paid it off within 5 years of graduating. Minimum payments for awhile while I worked shitty retail and minimum wage, and then very quickly once I got a job in my field a few years later. Now I write software for tactical weapon systems for the military (yes in Canada).

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

That has to be the dumbest post ever. No one gets denied a job based on what their parents make. Their income is completely irrelevant. Millions of people pay their own way through college without parental help. It boggles my mind you think it was a bad decision because his parents are poor.

Well Mitt did tell me I should stick to picking crops and working in mills since my family can't pay for my entire college education out of pocket.

What boggles my mind was that he seems to have a sense of entitlement to get multiple educations without paying for them and is now on BG looking for ways to weasel out of the debt he earned, after dropping out of the program.

... and without even paying off this debt, the OP has started on a SECOND degree. He brought his parents and their income into the situation not me. He basically claimed "my parents are poor as shit so why shouldn't be entitled to amass huge debt trying to get a better life than them?"

If your parents are poor as shit then you probably lack the support system and upbringing to deal with debt and money responsibly... something that seems to be have been demonstrated amply by the OPs decisions so far.

Rather than embarking on a second education, the OP should downsize, get a part-time job, pay off his small remaining debt (maybe even move back home with his parents). What is it with the mentality that you can spend your way out of debt? Sometimes it works for countries, but it very rarely works for individuals.

I'm not going to read any more shitty socio/economic/political/moral opines from you jerks. If you think the OP is a dumbshit that's your prerogative; I'm not going to take time out of my day to move this into the politics subforum. It's far easier to ban.

And if this isn't possible? He should just be screwed for the rest of his life because of one small mistake?
