Can't you just +1 the number and leave it? lol.
On another note, crafting is pretty decently easy so far. Just have to keep roaming to find ore/wood/etc deposits. Can make all your armor and weapons, where certain things like bone/malachite/daedra hearts/etc determine how the item looks and not its stats (at least so far with opening lvl crafting).
Well this was a complete waste of time...
I don't hate it.
Is this game still on schedule to be on par with XIV 1.0? All I hear is negativity about it, but I do love the Elder Scrolls...
It isn't that bad, but it's about SWTOR level
I've definitely had worse beta experiences, and it's managed to keep me up all night like a junky through the weekend. But there is obvious issues. But I can't criticize too much just because it is beta.
Visually it's fucking beautiful, I'm only lvl 11 and so far every zone/experience I've had has made me look around and want to explore, which says a lot because normally I am like "meh, fuck exploring I just wanna get shit done and level up". A few little mini boss fights in quests have actually made me scratch my head and work out a way to kill it, with special mechanics included in the fight, which is always a good thing especially leveling up.
I could write a list of whats wrong but it's literally pointless just because it is beta and it could be a shitty version they are making us play on (I hope so anyway).
With Wildstar coming, and the next WoW expansion prolly dropping around the same time as this is launched I doubt I will personally buy it though, to me it doesn't hold a candle to Wildstar. But after all I'm not really a Skyrim/Oblivion/Elder Scroll Universe fan.
I have a BG guild going. No one in it. I'm Zetanio ingame and I have no idea what server I'm on or anything.
the guild/friend invite system is pretty awkward, it is based on your account name and not your ingame character name
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but live betas are usually a fork off of the main branch where all the active code is checked in. In other words, they get the main branch stable as a live beta approaches, then when they think it's stable enough, they snap it to a beta fork. They'll build the fork and push it up to the live servers. You are seeing code that is a bit stale, but at most only stale by a few weeks.
For most companies, by the time they are pushing things to beta the underlying product design is set in stone. There may be additional features that aren't completed, but anything you see is going to make it to retail. The only difference is retail should be a lot less buggy. There are rare exceptions. If things are really busted, or there is a huge outcry from beta testers and the company actually listens to its testers, they might make a feature change. But revamping a feature is incredibly expensive, and upper management in many MANY companies have a very bad habit of thinking their ideas are above any petty consumer's feedback. That's why you wind up with fundamental things like the Start button missing from new versions of Windows. Someone who gets paid way too much money believes their ideas are so awesome that they can ignore every single customer who is saying the exact opposite.
Beta has been release for a while now.
Nothing really grabs me about it
anyone else notice that this thing takes a ridiculously high amount of space compared to basically any other MMO? why the fuck
It wouldn't be a Bethesda game if it didn't.
Haha how I feel exactly. I still feel it would be a very successful b2p type game, especially with graphic mods (if they don't throw in the ability to do this, fuckem), but I still can't see the sub model working on a grand scale anymore.
Looks like it'll just be another "meh" in the endless stream of "meh" that the MMO scene has been since forever ago.
From what I got to see in this beta, nothing seemed particularly terrible about it. There were bad parts that could certainly see some improvement for sure, but that's kind of the point. As far as content goes, from my understanding they're deliberately holding things back so they can slowly release it (monthly updates or some such) without burning through it all at the start and having piss poor tiny updates down the road.
Some of the things I liked:
- The game looks absolutely amazing, and while graphics aren't everything in a game, it's still pretty important to draw some people in. Keeping them is another issue.
- Combat is pretty cool, though I had to change the default controls because attacking with the mouse to me is just all kinds of "what is this I don't even".
- Bank being shared between all of your characters is made of win.
- Morrowind! That alone makes me want to play it just to explore even if the game itself turns out to be crap.
- Character creation is pretty sweet, and has tons of options to do almost anything you want with your character.
- Naming system is cool, with being able to use punctuation, names that are up to four words long, etc.
Some of the bad:
- Can't use shift/alt/control modifiers for keys. Seems the only thing you can pair together are the mouse buttons, and only with each other.
- 3rd person camera is the typical piece of crap you've come to expect from every elder scrolls game.
- Not much to actually do, though it is just the beta and they don't want us doing everything anyways.
- Race being restricted to a specific alliance kind of sucks, especially if you plan on playing with friends and they don't want to be a race from the alliance you want. It doesn't get better at 50 apparently, where you still can't interact with them when you get to leave your alliance territory. Well, aside from killing them anyways.
- Balance. At a glance, some of the race/class combos seem like they're going to be crazy OP, though I guess we won't know for sure until 50 when everyone has their full set.
- Naming system is also bad. Because of how the megaserver works, there will only be one of any given name ever. Name is taken? Tough shit, either pick another or throw random punctuation into the mix. Can't wait until Emperor King xxSepferithxx le_saltyballs d'thurd gets crowned and becomes the new ruler of Cyrodiil.
Indifferent:
- Loot system. On one hand, it's cool that everyone gets their own loot, so there's no competition over it. Join group, kill boss, get shinies and leave. On the other hand, I have flashbacks of voidwatch and Diablo III where you need to kill something a thousand times to maybe get the piece you want, meanwhile someone in your group just got their 10th and they don't even want the thing.
- Fast travel is fast. Being able to teleport instantly to party members or the nearest wayshrine is super convenient, but totally ruins the sense of exploration that the game is supposed to be based around.
That said, I think I'll find the game much more fun if I play it as your typical elder scrolls game and not an MMO. I also have to remember that it's just a beta, and that betas typically aren't that fun from experience. I didn't have fun with the FFXIV beta either, but I like the game now.
My experience:
Good:
The storyline is compelling. The graphics are pretty sweet. There's fishing (!!!). Fast travel is next-level. It's pretty fun, not first blowjob fun but fun. Voice acting (Dumbledore and more)!
Middle of the road:
Combat system is slightly easy at the moment. Lots of bugged quests and sound issues but they seem easy to sort. Quests could be more dynamic.
Bad:
HUGE download 22+gb. Very lame division between races, factions and interactions. There is literally no interaction as Korialstrasz mentioned. The one person I was playing with went a different faction and stopped playing after 6-7 hours because we realized we couldn't meet up. It's Skyrim, with more people. Doesn't really change the game as far as anything graphically or combat-wise.
