I don't remember that far back very well at all, but I think back when we wanted to be an FFXI fansite there were a lot more guidelines. Like I think we would have had to have gotten rid of things like the random image thread as well (or at least have stricter rules on what could be in it).

SE rep finally compromised with FFXIV because when you click on the link it takes you directly to the FFXIV forum section instead of all of BG. I think they were trying to be more "community-friendly" when it came to 14.

To bad it still sucks.

Ya pretty much. And considering at the time we became a fansite, BG was still all hyped for the game so they probably figured it was worth trying to keep our support.

I wonder if they were at all aware that they were gearing up for a big disappointment, but just didn't have time and money to correct course. I'm positive they still wouldn't have come close to producing an MMO that a majority of Americans would consider fun, as they never seem capable if adjusting anything in appropriate measure, but still. When something is that far off the mark, there had to be some doubts circulating in the office.

I dunno. I think it's possible depending on if the Abyssea crew got to see it at all during the process. They didn't come into it until they had to fix shit, but that doesn't mean they weren't in the same office or didn't glance at shit and be like, "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?" If it was closed doors with the original team they've always given the impression of, "We will do w/e the fuck we want, and they will eat this shit up because it is Final Fantasy." So probably didn't think it through enough.
