I agree with this if his story is accurate. If his story is inaccurate, those charges make more sense. It seems like the prosecution started off thinking he was a total racist liar, then as evidence progressed to show that maybe ok not totally the case, they didn't fix their case up at all. Meh

Yes, I am absolutely creating a double standard.

One is for people that were in the act of committing a crime, drunk, in the middle of the night.

The other is for a kid that was walking home from the store, not drunk, or doing anything else wrong, in the evening.

Any person with a brain larger than the period at the end of this sentence would also view that as a legitimate double standard.

He was pretty close. His lawyer and brother aren't really helping his case in the court of public opinion.

People seem to fail to realize that not having to have been reasonable about putting yourself in that situation is the difference between it mattering and not mattering at all if Trayvon was defending himself.

Uh, what evidence? That he shot someone and told a story? Standard procedure would be to at least hold him overnight for questioning and witness-gathering, not taking some guy's word for it. They saw a black kid in a hoodie lying on the ground and a grown man with bruises and a broken nose. That didn't tell them shit, and if told you anything other than "we need to investigate this" you're a fucking tool.

In most places, including Florida, there are many laws to punish you for being a fucking idiot if it results in someone's death.

It's just that chasing an innocent kid down because he's black isn't idiotic enough for Florida. Or apparently a large number of people here.

Jurors vote for Zimmerman = racial card
Jurors vote against Zimmerman = all women emotional bias etc

    Can't win it seems

Funny, that Jeantel girl spoke to Pierce Morgan last night. Heard what the Juror tearfully said to Anderson Cooper and she just shook her head calling all this just a race thing. Said something about the whole "creepy ass cracker" being some kind of way to refer to a "cop". I really hope I misheard but I couldn't stand listening to her and just shut it off.

That's one way of looking at it and it'd certainly help his view of things in court. Or he just didn't give a fuck he killed a kid. Or it hasn't soaked in yet.

Just because you killed someone in self-defense doesn't mean you still can't feel bad about it.

Must be a Florida thing, calling white people "creepy ass crackers" lol. The term makes me giggle more than being a potent racial epithet.

You can never "win". That's "justice" in a nutshell. Justice is skewed by public perception, and one can never truly eliminate perception from justice. Its not blind so much as it is endlessly tainted by what humans inject into it.

That said, the juror 37 feels that everyone has a right to own a gun. I need to hurry up and start packing. I feel left out; like I'm not espousing my birth-given American Rights.

the amount of mad in this thread is pretty funny. you guys are so certain of what happened as if you were jurors or lawyers assigned to the case or even better witnesses. there was such a lack of evidence it's shocking this made it to court to be honest.

the only reason anyone cares at all is because the media told you to care. there are how many other murders every single day in America that none of you give a shit about?

what a tired and unintuitive argument. The reason this is a high-profile case (other than race) is that it demonstrates a legal grey area where most people would agree that this conflict could have been avoided but there's a lot of disagreement as to whether someone should be held accountable for that. Hence this entire discussion. Of course, the media (and some posters here) are making it more about race than the legal issue that prevails - why is it okay for someone to get themselves into a bad situation then murder their way out of it?

I haven't been guiltless in focusing on the race thing too much, but I find it pretty angering when people say it doesn't matter at all here.

From what I read, the detective in charge was going to charge and hold him but decided not to after telling Zimmerman that they had the whole thing recorded and Zimmerman's reaction to that comment. Most people would have froze up knowing they had just been caught in a lie (dont pretend you wouldn't either) but he gauged Zimmerman's relief to that statement as indicating innocence. I would too if I was the cop and had just told him that and his reaction wasn't fright/terror and instead relief. Why would he be relieved if he had just been caught in a lie?

I don't think the worst part is his lack of remorse for the actual killing.

The worst part was when he said that looking back knowing that his suspicions were wrong, and knowing the kid was going to die, he'd still do the exact same thing with getting out of the car and looking for him.
