Last winter, while I was shoveling my driveway, a man who lived in the neighborhood pulled over and asked me how much I would charge to shovel his until he realized it was me. He is quite liberal and voted for Obama. But was totally unaware of the racism that lives somewhere within him.
The idea that race plays no role in decisions that people make every day is ludicrous. I often find that my starting point when meeting white people is that they are going to be racist unless they prove otherwise.

I've had people ask me to shovel their driveway too...I guess...I guess I now know how racism feels....;_;

The guy drove up and asked him how much he charged for shoveling, how is that question racist in any shape or form other then the person writing it happens to be black. His neighbor obviously stopped himself when he saw that he knew the guy and that it was his own driveway, not that he was suddenly "Oh shit, this guy knows i'm a racist".

Yeah I get the fact that he's talking about how everyone is racist in some way or form, but the example is laughable unless he is really THAT hardened by racism all his life, which he may be I guess in which case, that someone asking him a simple question springs to his mind of a plantation owner yelling at his stock. In which case, my bad, but I still dont see the Zimmerman case as being centered entirely on racism.

It isn't and that isn't what the article was suggesting. Whether the reason he stopped from asking him to shovel was due to race or a different factor is another matter (though the guy telling his story knows an infinite amount more about the interaction than you do), but your post that I commented on made it seem like being asked to shovel was under fire as a racist statement, which exemplifies poor reading comprehension

Honestly this, everyone is racist in some way or some form. It's not going to change, people will never change until the entire pool of humanity look and act the EXACT same way...and then we'll just shift 100% to demeaning people based on their income.

Disclaimer: I'm not condoning we should just ignore racism so shut the fuck up before you type that, but trying your hardest to find traces of racism in everything is just weary.

People need to learn to take shit on the lip, especially when they dish it out. Obviously not saying that if you're in a position of authority you have to set that shit aside and be professional which is obviously harder for some people then others.

Making racist jokes = fine whatever
Not hiring a qualified person BECAUSE he's black = not fine
Not hiring a unqualified person and he's black = fine (except people will flip a shit 80% of the time)

And yeah, laws have to be set in place because people can be trusted to actually act like this.
