Personally I would expect our president to be above the division, and stand behind our justice system, instead he chose, along with all other media outlets, to make this a race issue. Quite frankly he sounded ashamed of whites in America. I voted for him twice and that speech disappointed me more than anything he's done so far. He felt the outcome would have been different with a white teen, and I have to disagree, with all evidence the same, I think the verdict would have been exactly the same.

He is right about the younger generation; they are better at this shit than we are, no doubt.

This is what I've been saying to people on my facebook. There's so much more noteworthy shit happening in the world right now and THIS is what people are focusing on.

You would expect the president to be above these sorts of issues, but you're forgetting that a) he is black and b) has been subject to discrimination since taking office by bigoted assholes.

People choose to get upset about different things for different reasons. None of this really affects me, and I'm not overly upset about it really. Just expected some unification instead of division at this point in time. I don't see where his speech did that.

I get his points, I get he is trying to paint a perspective and I personally didn't really draw issue with the speech. That said there is one glaring issue, people want everyone to stop viewing things through the glass of race, yet our president has to come out and explain/justify how and why these same people see things through the prism of race. Until that prism is destroyed things will never change.

I understand the outrage and the sadness but at the same time the people speaking out right now are blinded to the middle ground. When you look at this case, and you can't see past age and color(no matter what your view on the outcome) you are the problem.

No, I'm not talking about any of that, by the events, I was talking about the events that happened that night (Zimmy killing someone/calling them suspicious). Like I said on Miz's FB, if the victim was white what would change is Zimmerman would be mexican (I realize he is like peruvian or something) rather than white.

You are getting upset about something that the media controls, but you have to realize that the average person is very stupid. The only thing the media is doing to them is justifying their own prejudices. I didn't listen to the speech, but was it possible he was focusing on the fact that it could have happened to anyone, or more-so that he is also not fully caucasian so it could have happened to him as well? I remember when it initially happened, he said something similar, though I think it might have been something about how trayvon could have been his son.

If you want to talk about this case on the media, you have to talk about all the gang violence involving black on black crimes in detroit, chicago etc.
