You do have to contend with the fact that people are still going to get ahold of gun seeds to grow guns in their basements and construct them from materials readily available at your local hardware store. Plus if you made guns illegal, you would have to create an entire new department in law enforcement and customs to deal with people illegally dealing arms across US borders. We'd have to coin a new term for such miscreants. Since they are dealers who sell arms, why don't we just call them gun salesmen for now?

    Serious lack of foresight, guys.

I never heard one instance. *shrug* I'm not saying that's always the case, but i'm saying it isn't as "LOL STUPID" as people are painting it to be.

You were clearly hanging out with the wrong crowd! If you'd gotten killed and/or raped, you may have seen a gun.

Really though, I don't see or hear anything about gun-related crimes and I'm in Germany, which is (I am led to believe) fairly liberal by EU standards when it comes to gun laws. The problem is that crimes don't require guns, so taking it a step further and saying that the crime rate will drop if we outlaw guns is kind of impossible. However, that's not what I said. I just said that this particular crime would be incredibly unlikely to happen if guns were illegal.

A lot of people see guns as their replacement for a social program safety net that actually works (which they would vote against given the option). Some people see them as a sport item. Some people like to think of them as easy-mode self defense (It doesn't matter that he could kick my ass in a fight. I have a glock. etc.) Some people just have an adolescent hardon that never wore off for weaponry in general. They should really go to the doctor if it persists for more than eight hours. There are various pro-gun motives, many of which are valid. Most of the people in any of these categories are not going to be dangerous.

Still, people don't even have to name their reason for acquiring a gun when buying one in most states. Any prior felonies? Okay, come back in 3 days and you can have your pistol. Go be Batman; this gun is your utility belt.

Probably had more to do with SEC than gun laws.

Here we have conceal carry and open carry laws. The only shootings you hear about are gang related, or in poor areas, and hunting accidents. A fat nerd in a hobby shop argued with me about D&D editions with a glock on his hip. But this town is fairly well to do, full of doctors, lawyers, professors, and professionals. The poor areas are small and relatively non-violent, but they're the only places that have shootings despite almost no gun resitrctions beyond federal ones.

Easy Turbo. That's what we call a troll. Just respond with humorous sarcasm and we can all be like Jon Stewart.
    Sarcastic, definitely. Trolling, not really.

I honestly don't doubt there are places where this would work. I think that any good that comes of our current system is mostly by accident. However with the state of the country the way it is, making all firearms illegal wouldn't solve anything. All that would happen is that those who smuggle things into the country would make a healthy profit off adding another item to the menu. All that would happen is you would create criminals out of some people who aren't, and adding another reason for people to fight each other (depending on where you live).

Trayvon Martin 911 Call: George Zimmerman Racial Slur

As more details emerge from the Trayvon Martin shooting, it is becoming increasingly clear that the police have failed to bring George Zimmerman to justice. Trayvon Martin, a 17-year old African-American teenager carrying Skittles, was chased, confronted, then fatally shot in Sanford, Florida late last month by Zimmerman, a 28-year-old Latino college student who was the captain of the neighborhood watch. After initial questioning, Zimmerman was released without charges.

Now, details are emerging that Zimmerman called Trayvon Martin a “Fu*king Co*n” on the initial 911 call. Although the role of Trayvon’s race has been debated up until now, the recording proves that Zimmerman’s thought process was somewhat influenced by race.

Albeit not conclusive evidence, the rest of the tapes released by the police lead us to believe that Zimmerman committed a hate crime and did not act in self-defense.

“You can hear a faint voice cry “help.” You can hear the booming sound of a gunshot.

You can hear the alleged shooter tell a radio dispatcher, minutes earlier, that he had spotted “a real suspicious guy” who “looks like he’s up to no good,” then add, “These assholes, they always get away.”

The dispatcher asks: “Are you following him?”

    “Yeah.”

“OK, we don’t need you to do that,” the dispatcher says.”

How has this asshole not been arrested already? There's enough fucking proof that it wasn't in self-defense.

Has anyone been able to find out what this guy does for a living? We know he's a CJ student, but is there any other background on him? I'm having trouble finding any myself.

    Also, http://www.ebony.com/black-listed/ne...dead-by-police

Don't forget about this kid here too. Cops shot him in his home, unarmed. In front of his mother.

If we're going to be mad about one, get mad at the trend too. This shit happens a lot. Needs to stop.

Also found this, a very logical assessment:

By Nikki Lynette, Wednesday at 7:57 pm

An open letter to George Zimmerman: Why I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt

I have a theory about life. I believe that it is important for all of us to pursue our passions in life because if we don't channel our need for the highs & lows that life hands us into something we consider important then we start creating problems and drama just to feel as if we are living life to the fullest. I don't know if that is a real theory that exists in the world already and has a name and a whole religion attached to it, it's just what I believe. You know what furthers my belief in this theory? Your actions, George Zimmerman. Because of this, I have decided to give you the benefit of the doubt. Let's discuss the situation logically, all feelings aside. Just the facts.

I don't know much about you aside from what I read on the internet. I don't like to read the news and form my opinions about stuff based upon what other people think, so I spent some time doing research on you, Trayvon Martin, and the entire situation, thinking that maybe after the investigation we'd have more information and be able to better understand what happened that night. However, the investigation hasn't happened yet.

The police in Florida are on record stating that you have an excellent record and are an upstanding citizen. In fact you were never even arrested or given a blood alcohol test. Travon Martin's dead body was given a blood alcohol & drug test, but you were not. And maybe if the police had done a background check they would've learned that you had been arrested in 2005 for suspicion of battery on a law enforcement officer, which would have informed them that your record is not squeaky clean. If the U.S. Justice Department hadn't decided to investigate the case then you would be able to go on with your life as if this never happened. Does that make sense to you, George Zimmerman?

If you truly believe in upholding the law, then why did you ignore the emergency dispatcher's instructions to not pursue the "suspect" and to just wait on the police? At this point we have all heard the audio where you were clearly told not to follow Trayvon Martin. Why did you disobey the dispatcher's orders and, most importantly, why did you bring your gun?

According to the Miami Herald, you "called the police 46 times since Jan. 1, 2011 to report disturbances, break-ins, windows left open and other incidents." If you took your job as a neighborhood watchman so seriously, then why did you never join any of the Neighborhood Watch Organizations that are recognized by the National Sheriffs' Association? In fact, their Executive Director, Aaron D. Kennard, said this in a press statement:

"The alleged action of a 'self-appointed neighborhood watchman' last month in Sanford, FL significantly contradicts the principles of the Neighborhood Watch Program...NSA has no information indicating the community where the incident occurred has ever even registered with the NSA Neighborhood Watch program."

How can you explain this, George Zimmerman? You can't say that you did not know these organizations exist, you were once a Criminal Justice student, it is arguable that you know the law better than most citizens.

Also, I understand that you own a license to carry a weapon, but you violated the rules of Neighborhood Watch by following Trayvon Martin and confronting him while carrying a concealed weapon. That does not make you a defender of your community, it makes you a vigilante. Your claim of self-defense might have been credible if Trayvon Martin had not been 100 pounds lighter than you, 11 years younger than you, and had been armed with something more substantial than a bag of Skittles. I have created this image to put a visual to the scenario.

    http://www.chicagonow.com/becoming-n...03/scarier.jpg

I guess my final concern lies with with this is your self-defense claim that I mentioned earlier. The part that I have trouble understanding is how can it be self-defense when you are the one who pursued him? From what I've read, Florida has a self-defense law that gives you the right to protect yourself if you fear that you will be injured or killed. At what point in your confrontation after voluntarily chasing down an unarmed boy who was 100 pounds lighter than you did you feel as if your life was in danger?

I know you'll likely never read this blog, George Zimmerman, but that wasn't gonna stop me from writing it. You see, next year my teenaged nephew will be 17 years old. He is a black boy who enjoys iced tea and Skittles, like Trayvon Martin did. I have given you the benefit of the doubt and looked at this situation from a logical standpoint and I have decided that not only do I believe your actions were unjust, but that the world would be a better place without you in it. There is a special place in hell for people who kill children, and as long as someone like you is allowed to roam the streets freely then children everywhere are unsafe. Maybe if you had continued with your Criminal Justice courses then you could have ended up being more to the world than a blemish on the face of society. I would feel as if the world was a better place if you marched into a police station and said "Arrest me, book me, charge me. I deserve to be punished." But at this point I guess it's too late for that.

And even if you never get arrested and jailed for what you did, I can't help but feel like justice will be served in the end. Why? Because I have another theory about life...what goes around comes around.
