From the phone conversation, he was describing Trayvon's behavior as odd. He mentioned him being black only after being prompted by the police operator. Regardless, his skin color probably did set him apart, as crimes had been committed by black people in the days, weeks, and months prior.

That doesn't seem outrageous to me. That's like someone at police HQ telling units to look out for a black male wearing white shoes and a red hat. It's a description. Is it then racist to stop the next person outside fitting that description?

I seem to think the line is drawn when someone automatically assumes this person to be a criminal, or *the* person they're looking for. "Oh hi, you're black, you must do drugs and commit all the crimes!" Zimmerman's statement of "They always get away" does seem to be clear enough for me to say he was acting on racial prejudice, there were other factors that made him suspicious. And the key word is suspicious. He didn't call police and say "Yup I've got the blackie criminal right here. He's the one, I'll tie him up for you."

Don't bother bringing up facts like Zimmerman being suspicious of Trayvon because of his behavior and not because of the color of his skin. Archi/et al have already made up their mind thanks to the sources they rely on for information. They're unwilling to question the veracity of the information, search for raw information that's free of bias, or simply think for themselves.

Noone knows what is truly in the heart of a person. I don't think he would've called on a white guy because white guys supposedly weren't the suspects in recent break-ins, so a white guy wouldn't fit the profile of who he would deem suspicious.

If you want to argue he would've called on a white guy, go for it.

If I saw someone, white or black, walking back and forth on a street looking at houses, I would think they were suspicious as fuck. (edit) Especially when it's dark and raining. When it's raining out, if you don't have an umbrella, generally you're trying to bee-line back home. Loitering is inherently more suspicious in those circumstances.

i don't know why anyone that actually knows the case continues to argue with idiots in this thread. people that are crying racism clearly never looked into it at all. and even if zimmerman was behaving as a racist would, there was not enough evidence to convict him of anything criminal.

Zimmy does not say he was walking "back and forth on a street" anywhere in that recording. He says the kid is "walking around" - which is incredibly vague, and he also suggests he's "on drugs" immediately.
