But yes, that is the distinction I'm drawing. If you are accusing someone of attempting to cause you great bodily harm (and that's why you killed them), the person you killed should have the presumption of innocence.

I'm personally pleased that people are still uppity about it, and I'm entirely serious. While many of the discussions that result will be unproductive and purely emotional, I encourage the pointed questioning about their privileges, our continued economic segregation, the proven prosecution bias in our penal system, and our embarrassingly unnecessary cultural love of guns. I prefer that white people are riled enough to be stopped from swiftly sweeping it under the rug, as they do with too many things. I hope it goes on. I hope they're angry.
