The question is what can be done about it? People have the impression that blacks are all criminals because that's what the media pumps out, rap lauds deviant behavior, role models boil down to performers or sports stars, black on black crime is a reality and there aren't enough community game changers to get people to change their attitudes amidst a sea of poverty, desperation and denied opportunity. It'd take a cultural revolution to reverse the current path of the African-American community as a whole and that isn't possible when the race is so divided.

I'd be stunned if a room of black people could even identify who Neil De'grasse Tyson is but if you put up a picture of Michael Vick? Yeah, therein lay the problem.

Plenty of people are out there trying to break the stereotypes but when the community turns on you for trying to make something of yourself it isn't surprising when successful blacks turn around and loathe the very people they should be trying to lift out of the muck. It's a self-destructive cycle.

I personally don't see anything wrong with this. If they're off-duty, they're not responsible for answering questions if they don't want to. They need an opportunity to wash their hands and go home, just like the rest of us do in relation to our own jobs. Additionally, they're entitled to the protections that being in their workplace gives.

Any journalist acting like the paparazzi in hopes of securing a candid interview with an unwilling candidate isn't exempt from respect, nor the law. That's why the paparazzi can get arrested, after all. This is also how bullshit stories based on a cobbled-together list of rumors, half-truths, etc., start, and in an important case like this, the last thing we need are more rumors.
