The first time I read this story it was said that the cop approached them on the street because the guy was so intoxicated. He reached in his jacket, cop shot, bullet hit the innocent woman in the head.

Yeah, it's about as awful as it sounds. Commander Jeff Schoep explains that he's not advocating violence but rather trying to prevent it: "We are not the type of white people who are going to be walked all over." He compared his group's presence to Al Sharpton's, saying that neo-Nazis are simply a "white civil rights organization." I mean, they're really just misunderstood.

The Black Panthers have been offering bounties and all that. But if we called for a bounty on someone's head, I guarantee we'd be locked up as quick as I could walk out of my house.

And while the neo-Nazis' arrival in Sanford is a result of the Trayvon Martin shooting, Schoep is not interesting in taking sides. And why would he, when — as so many right-wing pundits have been eager to point out — George Zimmerman isn't even white?

I think there is some confusion going on. A lot of people think that this guy who shot Trayvon was white ... but he's half Hispanic or Cuban or something. He certainly doesn't look white to me.

See, this has very little to do with the Trayvon Martin shooting: the neo-Nazis just want to make sure white people feel safe. And if members of Sanford's black community end up feeling threatened by a patrol of armed bigots, that must just be an unintended consequence.

Tulsa shootings: Police arrest two men, fear it was a hate crime

Police in Tulsa, Oklahoma have arrested two men in connection with Friday's shooting spree that left three dead and two wounded--and sparked fears of a hate crime in the community.

According to Tulsa police, two white men--19-year-old Jake England and 32-year-old Alvin Watts, were arrested early Sunday.

"We're not exactly sure what their relationship is to another--whether they are friends or extended family members," Tulsa police capt. Jonathan Brooks told CNN. All five victims were black, Brooks said.

Before their arrests, police cautioned that there was no evidence a hate crime had been committed. "There's a very logical theory that would say that that's what it could be," Tulsa police chief Chuck Jordan said on Saturday. "But I'm a police officer. I've got to go by evidence."

According to CNN, local law enforcement, the U.S. Marshals and FBI had been searching for the suspects since early Friday when the string of shootings began.

According to the Associated Press, the men were arrested in at a home just north of Tulsa at 1:47 a.m. Sunday and "were expected to be charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill." Law enforcement, backed by helicopters, raided the home after receiving an anonymous tip, the AP said.

According to the New York Times, survivors had initially described the gunman as a single white male driving a pickup truck "with its tailpipe hanging." According to police, the suspect had stopped to ask victims for directions before shooting them.

The north Tulsa neighborhoods where shooting occurred were described as predominately black.

"For a white male to come that deep into that area and to start indiscriminately shooting, that lends itself for many to believe that it probably was a hate crime," Rev. Warren Blakney, a local pastor, told CNN.

"You have somebody white who has come into a community and taken shots at, killing black people" Jack Henderson, a city councilman, told the cable network. "To me, that would indicate that we have some kind of a racial problem."

Brooks added: "We wanted to get the word out now so that when people woke up this Easter Sunday morning, they'll know that Tulsa is a little bit safer place."

what do you want people to do? Riot in the street? The feds are looking into this, this kinda stuff takes time.

what are we supposed to do for the months it takes them to investigate, then act on the investigation? There's only so much "new" info to be shared about the events of that day, constantly talking about something people have discussed at length with out adding something new is a gigantic waste of time.

News agencies report new news. There hasn't been any new developments in this story for a bit now. Would you like them to keep running the same story over and over again? Also it isn't out of the news completely cnn.com still has something on their front page about it. I am sure the news agencies are following it and waiting for a new development so they can run the story again. Right now everyone is just waiting on the DA to decide if they are going to arrest/charge Zimmerman.

He makes a fair point. Jonbennet Ramsey received far more news and tabloid coverage with far less evidence. Not only was she a young, blonde white child, but she was a child pageant "star", her mother was a former one, and there was the intrigue about her parents possibly killing her and trying to cover it up.

They were just in the news for something else, but nothing bad.

Jonbennet Ramsey case was unsolved, mysterious murder and had far far more quirks to nit pick and examine and discuss. New evidence for the case kept popping up as well later on after the case broke that kept the news chomping at the bit. I understand Kuro's point but I disagree with it in the sense that this case has been discussed at length, examined by various professionals and really offers no new stories for the news to cover. If this was an unsolved kidnapping with various pieces of new evidence popping up and the news chatter about it was slowing down then I would agree with you but as it stands now this case isn't getting less coverage because it involves minorities it just doesn't have anything new for the news to get excited about.

I think with this case how long it stayed in the news is far less of an issue than how long it took for the news to pick up on the story and give it national attention. This should have been newsworthy right away after the shooting rather than later on. It really gathered steam slowly.
