AM I reading the news correctly in that the defense put Trayvon's father on the fucking stand? In front of 6 female jurors? That happened?

It certainly wasn't crucial, they had several witnesses testifying the voice on the call was Zimmerman's. they were trying to get him to admit under oath that Zimmerman was the one screaming in the 911 call and not his son. Apparently the defense thinks that screaming because you got punched after you pursued an innocent kid is grounds for shooting them.

Let me preface this by saying I'm typing on my phone and don't want to get into it like this.

With that said, I have been watching this trial since the start, and if you are not really watching the actual proceedings and getting your info from the media then you are getting spoonfed garbage.(what's new though)

Having watched this thing I can definitely say that the prosecution has no real case here... It is nothing but embarrassing to watch. At the absolute worst the jury will give him manslaughter... But even that seems a stretch at this point.

How can the prosecution have no real case? In my mind, when 911 dispatch told him NOT to follow, everything that happened after that is moot. Not to mention he obviously harbored ill will or malice given his statement (again to dispatch) that "these assholes always get away". PLUS the photos of him being led into the police station show no overt injuries, so his "Trayvon was slamming my head into the ground" defense doesn't really work out. All that together means the prosecution shouldn't need to have much...

Ah, the defense called him. For some reason I read that as defense rebuttal from the prosecutor and not actually Zimmerman's defense attorney.

Well, the defense calling a witness is objective information, not subjective. So it can't be considered garbage information. Now, the context, I suppose, can be subjective. Regardless, first years wouldn't be so ignorant as to call a murder victims family to the stand. It's usually the opposite, trying to find ways to restrict the prosecution from calling family members to the stand. The defense willingly did it. I can't imagine it was a good move. The family wasn't there, they aren't on trial. They are simply bystanders that had a son gunned down. You are watching this through the eyes of someone following the case from start to finish, and by that I mean from the onset of the murder, on. Not throu the eyes of a juror. That's a very different viewpoint. I haven't watched the case, but I did learn enough about law proceedings in school to know the defense did something very strange.

Since you watched the case, what was the significance of putting him othe stand? He disputed the testimony of their other witnesses.

as long as you don't mind me being brief, it was twofold. First they they put him in a position where he contradicted the story told by the detective and Leo that took the stand directly before him.

Second is that they are setting up inconsistencies for when they presumably call Mr. Crump.

You understand you don't put a witness on the stand that you know will contradict one of your other witnesses, right? If its for inconsistencies, I get tha, but not for your first point. That's absurd.

And the prosecution never called him, did they? So it isn't a credibility issue either. As I said, he's not on trial. The only reason the defense would put anyone on the stand is to bolster their defense.

Or ask him offensive questions until he strangles the defense attorney.

    Boom, mistrial!

This is only true if you don't understand that their biggest key to proving murder 2 over self defense is the basis of anger/ill will.

The shit Zimmerman said on the 911 calls is absolutely devastating to his defense, hardly anything else even matters.

The defense has also failed almost entirely at convincing anyone that Zimmerman was actually in serious danger, and the prosecution has done a very good job at making sure nothing legitimately makes it seem like he was.
