I realize his acquittal won't be related to stand your ground laws, but this case calls into question the merit of allowing an armed civilian population to engage in predatory behavior without fear of recourse (as they can always use their gun if they get in too deep).

Though Florida is still staunchly republican, so perhaps this is all for naught and nothing will change either way.

Anyways, if you all want plow to stop arguing weird tangents and semantics, stop responding to those arguments. When I told him that his sentence train needed some editing to make a better point, he proceeded to tell me how he is the the king of spelling and grammar. There is no concession with this guy so it is really just the constant responses to him that encourages him to continue.

Back on topic; I think the prosecution lost this case when they changed their narrative and started throwing out "what if"s. It would not surprise me if he is acquitted. You can't win a case by saying "what if Zimmerman didn't fear for his life?" To me, just phrasing possible scenarios as questions to the jury brings up all kinds of reasonable doubt.

Trolling or not, it's a fair point. Prosecutorial misconduct is a real and serious problem. I still don't understand how it's legal to try and convict someone of crime A, but allow jurors the option of crimes B, C, and D as fallbacks if the prosecution fails to make a case for crime A. I would put money that a statistical analysis of verdicts in cases where lesser crimes were allowed would show far more guilty verdicts for the lesser crimes than the ones being sought by prosecutors (in other words, jurors are willing to make a "compromise" for justice, which is itself an injustice).

The filter there is the judge however. If the "compromise" instruction is not supported by law, then the judge has the authority and mandate to not allow it. It's not just unchecked prosecutorial misconduct. The state wants accountability (we can get into several grand policy/sociological reasons for accountability in the justice system), and it is their duty to seek accountability in any legal way they can manage.

That being said, I'm not in any way throwing my support behind what I consider an over-reaching justice system and disproportionate prosecutions with a growing problem of criminilzation.
