I've never had jury duty, do they really sit there talking to each other going over the case to decide what to do? Or do they put verdicts in a hat and count them up survivor style until they get a unanimous vote lol.

From my two times serving its a bit of both. Thrown into a small room, take a quick refresh talk of the case, and do a vote. If the vote doesn't meet majority then people explain their stance based on presented case, hash hash hash, vote again. Repeat until majority/unanimous decision is reached.

The fact that they asked for clarification of manslaughter means it pretty obvious that's what they are thinking about. The most he is going to get is involuntary manslaughter but maybe not even that much, because he wasn't commiting a crime on the night the shooting happened.
