re: ace: so some laws apply to whites and not blacks. in the south. what else is new?

edit: in court of public opinion he's white (which is stupid), but that's part of what makes my point.

it's a good thing no one here is a judge or making laws.

Also what is with people making this a white black thing? The dude was Hispanic.

Get it right. Call it a Spanish guy being racist if you want. It's so funny outside collage and the USA census I never here white Hispanics. It's always white or Hispanic. The kid was black, and profiled by a ignorant guy that's all.

The case wasn't really weak at all, but the law in Florida, the inherent complications with the scenario, and beyond reasonable doubt made this difficult.

Zimmerman is going to wish he was in jail when he realizes that his life is going to be permanently fucked after the civil suit though.

Note the reason I said he was going to be permanently fucked. Changing your name doesn't do anything to stop a civil suit.

So after he gets off of the civil suit, he disappears for a bit and everyone forgets. Just like the rest of the shit that happens in this country.

In all honesty he's probably so mentally fucked from killing the dude and the trial that none of that shit matters. I'm almost positive he's in some form of depression and will probably never be the same again. His life is ruined yeah, but not for all these superficial reasons.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

She asked: What can young black Americans learn from this [Zimmerman/Martin] case going forward?
His Response*: They can learn that they have the responsibility to deescalate any given confrontation with authority. Whether it is a police officer or a zealous neighborhood watcher, our young people have a responsibility to do whatever they can to flee, call for help, (he lists several things here), and avoid a confrontation. When dealing with police specifically every American has a responsibility to cooperate fully and give the officer no reason to use force.

There was silence for a good 20 seconds then the host floundered for something to say then went to commercial break. I get that he is saying it is better to run and live free another day, but what he said and the way he said it was very close to blaming victims when they are accosted. Saying that the responsibility is on the potential victim to deescalate a confrontation is exactly opposite of Stand Your Ground mentality.

    *His response was paraphrased.
Not really sure why there was silence between host and guest because what the NAACP rep said has been standard operating procedure for blacks for as long as there has been tension between the races in America and certainly Trayvon Martin would have heard it from his parents. I guess it's painful hearing the unspoken rule though. If you value your time, dignity or life you're encouraged to shelve your pride and simply prostrate yourself before law enforcement, hoping they show you mercy and move on to the next victim as quickly as possible. The stereotyped images of blacks in the media and in the heads of many is too quick to assume that if you look a certain way you're probably two steps from committing a crime. It's unfortunate but it is what it is.

As far as society is concerned, you're guilty till proven innocent and the quicker you can prove innocence the sooner you can untangle yourself from a system designed to entrap and imprison persons of color. The situation plays pretty much like what every other race has to do at a roadside pullover, DUI trap or street stop except exaggerated to the n'th degree. Slow that voice down, keep those hands where they can be seen, follow orders, employ self-deprecating humor to quell tension and hope you aren't dealing with an asshole cop looking to bag a coon.

Friend of mine sent me this short article, suggesting that Stand Your Ground may have ruined the early stages of the investigation:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/15/us...agewanted=2&hp

I'm not sure I can get on board with these assertions. Is the law itself flawed? Or would you just chalk this up to shoddy police work? Or neither?

More specifically, the part where: "Under the law, *if the police believe there is probable cause that someone acted in self-defense*, as Mr. Zimmerman said he had, they are not allowed to make an arrest, she said."

Is this the case in states without Stand your Ground as well? Or a new provision for this law?

Additionally: "The self-defense claim also may have affected how thoroughly the police interviewed witnesses, preserved the crime scene and screened Mr. Zimmerman."

Which does not sound like it's part of the law, but a misunderstanding of the law by police officers

You're not reading it correctly and it was worded poorly. Pretty sure he meant to say "Once he gets DONE with the civil suit" (or maybe i'm reading it wrong)

I may be wrong, but I thought someone posted a link about florida law that says you can't be held liable in a civil suit if you are found not guilty of a crime. I very well could be wrong on that though.

That is the problem right there. Instead of encouraging everyone that gets profiles to lay down and take it up the ass, they, the NAACP, should be working toward equal treatment as well as heavy handed punishment for anyone found, in a court of law, to be guilty of creating a hostile confrontation where race is a motive. Why does law enforcement get a free pass to accost black people in the south? Why the fuck is skin color still a thing in 2013? The silence from the host was because the guest was standoffish like "wtf do you mean 'what can we learn from this?'". The host was dumbfounded at how he said that basically, if you are black (especially in the south) you are less of a person and should act as such when confronted by "authority". Authority being in quotations because the way he said it makes it sound like anyone can appoint themselves a position of authority over a black person....

    underage nude females,
No shit, the nigga was 17, not 37.

I don't see how this was a case.

Where else can you get out of your car, approach someone to pick a fight, start losing, then bust a cap in their ass claiming self defense.

Fuck the race bullshit, the prosecution was shit tier.

"approach someone to pick a fight, start losing"

You just made all of this up. There is no evidence to suggest that Zimmerman initiated a physical confrontation.

What the was point of getting out of the car? I'm paraphrasing the event. How the hell else would Martin be able to get his hands on Zimmerman without him exiting his vehicle?
