This probably won't has as much pull as EVO across forums, but it's still about fighting games. MLG announced their roster for the Winter Championships as well as their announcers, so this topic has some relevance.

Pro Circuit Winter Championships, Columbus, OH March 23-25

This is the culmination of the Winter Season. This three-day, live blowout event brings together the best competitors from a variety of different games, all live under the same roof with thousands of spectators and fans. Every live Pro Circuit weekend brings with it the very best in gameplay, as well as a huge variety of spectator activities, prizes, and giveaways. If you're a gamer, this is the place to be.

For all those who plan on coming to the Live Championships:

If you want to watch all the games: buy a Venue Spectator Pass

* Get full access to watch all three days of competition for ALL GAMES at a live Championship
* Participate in all spectator activities, contests and giveaways.
* A spectator pass does not allow you to COMPETE in any Pro Circuit games; for that, you must buy a Competitor Pass for the game you want to compete in.

If you want to compete: buy a Competitor Pass for your game

If you already have a Gold Membership, be sure to use it when buying your passes. If not, this is the perfect time to get it.

Here’s an excerpt from MLG that introduces each commentator and what they’ll bring to the event:

Ryan Harvey (Fubarduck): This longstanding member of the FGC will be bringing his expertise to all three games. Ryan is the owner and operator of ArcadeUFO and the host of AmalgameTV, a weekly Japanese broadcast that covers the international fighting game scene. His fluency in Japanese and all-around game knowledge make him an incredible addition to the Pro Circuit.

Timothy Fenessey (BrewtusBibulus): This longtime member of the Soul Calibur V community has commentated at Final Round 13 and a host of other events. His expertise in SC5 as a long standing member of the 8wayrun community will bring the broadcast to a whole new level.

Oscar Oyarzabal (The Answer): One of the best-known KOF commentators. Oscar has deep connections with the King of Fighters XIII arcade scene in Southern California, as well as in Mexico. His fluency in Spanish and familiarity with the Latin American scene will be of huge value to all those watching the Winter Championships.

Phillip Michael Siegel (995Phil): Phil is on the staff of TestYourMight and runs the KombatNetwork stream, one of the biggest and most well-known Mortal Kombat streams in the US. We’re incredibly happy to have him with us on the Pro Circuit.

Major League Gaming recently posted full lists of all the registered players in the King of Fighters XIII, Mortal Kombat, and Soul Calibur V tournaments taking place at the MLG Pro Circuit Winter Championships. The full rosters can be found below.

He won't. He won't even top 8 in KOF, almost everyone in that roster is a killer. Bala, Reynald and Majin is enough to keep him out of Top 3-- Hispanics just too strong.

to generate hype for the event, people obviously are going to get bribed to compete. justin wong is god of capcom games, not any of these MLG games. it's fucking NCR this weekend ontop of everything else. considering jwong isnt going to NCR, it's pretty safe to assume jwong will be getting at least 10 grand to just compete. especially since he's been sweeping almost everything he's attended this year.

XD Xian. I think I read it wrong when I looked it over-- that actually makes for a very interesting Top 8.

Btw, there's some talk going around about MLG possibly picking up on SFxT as well.

I only follow fighting game tournaments, so I've never once looked at MLG. Didn't know people got paid to compete(outside of topping of course). That's sexy.. Any reason why the cash cow, Street Fighter 4, isn't on there?

there's never been news on why other than mlg and capcom can't come up with some kind of agreement to allow it at mlg.

also there's no proof on jwong getting paid to go but... its just common sense. if people see J wong attending a brand new tournament, people are going to want to watch/attend/compete.

SSF4 isn't on there because Mr. Wizard & the Cannon Brothers of EVO/SRK.com don't want MLG to turn it into a eSports fest (which would probably kill EVO). The three of them have way more pull than Sundance does when it comes to Capcom (since they've been the ones keeping up the fighting game community). However, the lure of huge prize pots is great. Capcom however has vasty stepped up their game into the scene regardless for 2012 and offered up $500,000 in cash and prizes throughout entire year, most of it people are guessing will flow into EVO.

What I've heard from Sundance is that there aresupposedly people inside Capcom that don't want their games going on MLG...for whatever reason

If Capcom does something like that it would be like giving Evo the middle finger. Fighting game peeps have always been this grassroots type of community (and very vocal too), and have kept the genre alive for years. Capcom knows this.

The dude in charge of MLG, forget his name, was on Cross Counter like two weeks ago and basically said the same thing to Gootecks. Something about there's someone in Capcom or someone influencing Capcom who doesn't want anything to do with MLG.

Yes MLG has free streams for these type events. They only do PPV for their arena stuff, which doesn't have live spectators and I think is currently only SC2. They do have a gold membership thing where you can get higher quality and more side-stage streams (at least for SC2... I dunno about fighting games), but yeah, that won't be required I think.

This is an interesting situation, because this is one of the first times you'll see the combination of two of the biggest e-sport scenes at the same event, Starcraft 2 and the FGC (would hit the trifecta if they pulled in LoL too, but clearly not this event). I know almost nothing about the FGC, so won't comment on the games or whatever, but I can say I hope people don't write MLG off too hastily. They had a pretty bad start for SC2 last year compared to their competition, but they were surprisingly reactive and proactive and quickly became one of the most anticipated events for SC2 fans. I would hope they are able to accomplish the same for fighting games in 2012.
