Random Fail: First World Problems

Kinda depressed tonight, just going through some family tree stuff online and looking at how many of my relatives (namely great aunts/uncles, and in some cases, great great) have passed in the last couple of years. I didn't spend a whole lot of time with many of them as an adult (regrettably) but I have a lot of some foggy others not so much memories of them from when I was a kid.

Cycle of life and all, I know. Old generation dies out, newer comes in, but fuck. I do miss them all.

Not really a FWP, but just figured I'd share anyhow.

2 fails tonight.

1) Lost my keys during my obstacle course tonight and it's not very well lit (and huge chunks not lit at all). Had to run an extra 2 laps retracing my steps to find them.

2) Gym, obstacle course, and 23 miles of biking on 1,300 calories do not make a great combination, lol.

About 15 miles into the ride, was so exhausted, was half tempted to park my bike and take a nap on a bus bench.

Planned a sick/personal day for tomorrow several weeks ago because I have to use them or lose it before the end of 2016. Now I actually am sick. Fuck.

How does this even happen?

So first fail is that I am sick and I've been sick since Thanksgiving. Decided to take today off since I barely made it to 3 o'clock yesterday. But I had to go into work to make my lesson plans. Of course this means I get pulled over by kids who need help with work (and not even for my class!), so it didn't make getting in and out easy.

But the real wtf fail? One student had a report he needed printed for another teacher. In his report he had the word "Republicanism" in it. My printer, for whatever reason, refused to print this word. It would print a capital R then a bunch of space where the "epublicanism" would go, and that's it. I tried rewording the sentence so it would be in another spot, nope. It showed up on the print preview and everything just fine, though. So I told him to write the word in the paper on hand and explain it to the teacher and I would verify it with the teacher later.

So weird.

Wednesday I swapped the mouse to an ergonomic one for the receptionist. Today I come in and find out she's "on leave" and the person manning the front desk hates change and wants the crappy non ergonomic mouse plugged back in instead.

While I've never heard of it for that newer prints are designed not to print some things. Like I know by personal experience you can't print images of newer money (think the cutoff is early 2000s). So it's not too hard to believe they could be made to not print certain words. Could test it with similar words.

Not sure if it would show up like that but not all printers support all fonts and wont print them so it's possible those letters are a different one and your student is trolling you

If you have something like this happen again, you could try converting the document to a PDF and then attempting to print the PDF.

Interesting. I just looked and the entire paper font is in Cambria (ugh, but he was just making his own Bill of Rights so it's not like a research paper). He's been super stressed about this project so I doubt he would troll me...or knowing this kid I doubt he would even know to do that even if he wanted to.

This is a brilliant idea, I'll try this when I am back at school tomorrow to see if it works for future reference.

My printer refused to print the voucher forms to the IRS for state and federal returns. The instructions would all print fine, the bottom part with all the actual information was completely blank. The entire box at the bottom was missing.

My dad's printer printed it. Not until I struggled for an hour or more to get it to work with his computer, though. I ended up printing it from my phone through the airprint/wifi shit.

So one of course customer sold his dentistry practice apparently. And we found out by going there to provide service and well the new guys having already moved in.

Then had one today not only try to tell me how to do my job but then tell me that's how it's always been done when she's been here before. I know for a fact it hasn't since the company was started try to tell her she must be thinking someone else. Nope you guys I want you to do it this way. Lady we aint even open today you should be thanking me I'm even helping you instead of making up fake complaints

Had to having a meeting with HR about how i would not like to be sent onsite to the police station we support as cops stress me the fuck out and in over a year its never been an issue but suddenly i get an email saying its mandatory i get cleared to go there. Meeting was being told the customer would come first and if they told me to go id have to, im "fine" with is as i know if i called my coworker they would do it for me. Its what i expected since im 100% sure im the only one whos been racial profiled by cops enough to know to stay the fuck away from them.
(im the only black person in my company 1.5 if you count the halfie WHO ALSO DOESN'T HAVE ACCESS OR WANT ANYTHING TO DO with the location )

Maybe not work for a company/agency then that has to deal with cops? It annoyed the shit out of me when none of my co-workers wanted to go to the coroner's office due to dead bodies.

if i had other options open id take them , this entire office's has changed in the last 6 months. its gone from a system of personal accountability to mass punishment and being treated like children. they put a web content block in effect because a contractor was on Facebook instead of firing or talking to the bad apple they punished us all. Or just today HR walked in and told us we need to take Pokemon plushies off the cubical even though they have been up for over a month , no reason for it just "take these down".

Shit happens everywhere, You suck it up and deal with it, or quit and find another job. When I worked at EA, it was customary for tech support to be armed to the teeth with nerf weapons. Rookie initiation usually involved a couple hundred nerf darts opened up on them in one of the conference rooms. Special snowflake saw a couple people carrying them walking around the campus and complained to HR, next day all weapons gone or you're fired. Had another day where we walked in, and they decided that all temps that were there 6+ months were fired, no warning whatsoever.

It was probably noticed by HR that you were the only or one of a couple not supporting a site that they are paid to cover and decided to lay down the law so it's even for everyone.
