I go from the top of the Bronx to the South Bronx right now and it takes me 45-50 minutes in the morning. Less than 10 miles. Adding 10-15 minutes to own property is a much better alternative to renting or buying a house that's closer for 3x the price.
Right now we're looking in Putnam near the border of Westchester. Taxes are lower than Westchester and once you cross that border the houses take a significant price drop. 250k for a decent 2 bedroom, 2 bath versus 375k-450k for similar.
The first house we looked at in Sept-ish was in Garrison, smaller than our apartment, and had really weirdly shaped rooms. Was built in the 1800s I think. They wanted 400k. Granted, Garrison is expensive in general and has good schools so that's really the main part of the price.
We have two other couples we hang with regularly closing in Cornwall and Livingston. We'd still be 40 mins from the guys in Cornwall and an hour from the guys in Livingston. We may end up being the in-between gathering place.
I grew up in northern Westchester. The tax drop is fucking real when you hit Putnam.
Do your friends in Cornwall and Livingston work in the metro area?
My friend in Cornwall does contracting work in Westchester so he doesn't have such a bad commute. His wife is taking botany courses or something at the NY Botanical Gardens (in the Bronx) and works with an indoor landscaping company or something on off days.
The guy in Livingston does interior finishing work in NYC and LI, even as far out as the Hamptons. He has contracts with Fendi, Calvin Klein (his personal homes in the Hamptons), Bunny Williams, and some other big names. His wife works for a not-for-profit with their main office in Manhattan, but I think she works from home most of the time. They're going to use the house as an escape more than anything, though. They're going to keep their Astoria apartment for the weekdays and then head up to the house on weekends. The property they're buying is really just that, mostly property. There's a small cabin on the land that is basically a large studio apartment.
If/when we move north I'll still be commuting into the Bronx, but my wife is going to try to work from home. She does fundraising consulting work; the company she works for is half remote anyway. Only 6 or so people come into their main office on any given day.
Putting ingredients in a burrito along the wrong axis should be a crime.
I food process all my burritos for maximum homogeneity. It's like savory oatmeal.
That sounds terrible. I like the different textures that different foods offer. I guess a burrito is generally not something you think of when you think texture in food, but I don't think I'd want to down a grey, gloopy mess.
I'm not looking for a homogeneous burritosludge, but no one eats the burrito along the short axes. That's all I'm sayin'!
people eat burritos instead of bowls at Chipotle? I didn't know that was still a thing...
For whatever reason anytime I eat a burrito the tortilla sticks to the roof of my mouth and it's annoying so I always opt for the bowl at chipotle

Yeah you get a bunch more in bowl. Though what you can do is to tell them to line the bowl with a tortilla and fill it up. Or like what I do is get a couple on the side to build my own burritos.
Anyways my fail blood work came back and apparently are almost completely fine. Which I guess is good but means still don't know what's up with me and symptoms pointed to things that blood work should find. Of course almost isn't quite. Apparently I have severe vitamin D deficiency to the point I actually need prescription strength. Given the fact I live in California and get plenty of sun and purposefully make sure to include decent portions in my diet everyday this is somewhat troubling.
Then again maybe it is related in a roundabout way hmmm..
I've had vitamin D deficiency for a long time as in needing 10k IUD pills , it sucks. Trying to find answers to medical shit that makes no sense is my life. Poor/compromised immune system but otherwise healthy but get sick constantly. Overweight but no diabetes or risk of and numbers are fine in cholesterol and BP normal/ideal. It's frustrating.
My fwp is work related : in an effort to cut cost or idiocy we ended up not hiring a DMV clerk before our last one left so WE are behind now 3-4 MONTHS and are basically saying it's not our fault. Such bullshit.
Got a $25 uber gift card for Christmas that doesn't work.
Tried to get it to work a week ago and got error codes in both regular Uber and UberEats. Go to their website to look for a number and they don't have one, at all.
So I send them an email, a week later, no response. So then I go to the in app help screen and send them a message. So they take an hour or so to respond, then ask me to take a screen shot of the error. I do that and an hour later, they give me some basic generic ass response (not how to fix it) but how to enter it to begin with and I'm like nigga I did that shit before I messaged you, hence messaging you (though I didn't actually say that, but I wanted to lol).
So then they're like okay we can't help you, call this number. I call the number and am put on hold for 30 mins. Get someone and explain the problem. He says I have the wrong department and switches me over. Then I get a lady and I start to explain my problem and she's like "oh no, this is just for online gift cards. idk who gave you our number" and i"m like nobody gave me your number. I was directly transferred.
So she asks what number transferred me and I give her the number and she's like "idk what that number is". Then says I should go into the uber app and use the help function.
Took 3 hours to get ran in a circle back to where I started and 0 steps have been taken towards getting that gift card onto my account -.-
As an Uber Driver, Uber's support is piss poor at best. They got rid of the e-mail address drivers could use for support issues to force us all to use the app, which 99.9% of the time, your first response is an auto canned response.
All the Lyft drivers we talk to have moved over from Uber because the entire company sucks ass.
Surprised the guy stayed on the phone for as long as he did. Ran out of cuss words to throw at him so I ended the call with "Since you don't have any fucking common sense to hang up on me, I guess I'll have to do it for you" and hung up on him
Your cussing must come off in a charismatic way or something. I feel like if I even slip with a damn, hell, or shit I get the "I'll end this call if you continue this abuse" speech, nevermind a fuck causing them to pass that up and go straight to I'm ending the call. That insurance fupa last page took 3 calls for me to not end up getting hung up on.![]()
