When I used to work in a hotel, somebody in the Sales department called me Wendy every. single. time they called me for any reason, despite the fact that I said my name every time I answered the phone. My name starts with an R and does not sound anything like Wendy. Made me think they must be a pretty terrible salesperson.
Also I was in the same boat on the teaching certification thing. I did end up getting a job by going to a school in person, but that's because I'm now working at a small independent niche school and they don't need to jump all the regular school district hoops.
No. Hint: Crohn's.
I think it's hysterical that the guy with Crohn's disease gets called colon all the time. I might be an asshole.
I'm sorry. But, Colin with two L's?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_(given_name) (There has never been a famous Collin apparently).
As an Irishman, I'd probably say 'Co-lyn' as well.
Random fail(ish?) of the day: Accidentally got high at work. I've been feeling the beginnings of flu/fever all morning so I took some ibuprofen. However, my ibuprofen also has codeine in it. And I also doubled the dose. And I haven't eaten anything all morning.
It makes listening to MIA's new album alot more enjoyable, but, the paranoia is desperate.
In regard to the job hunt terribleness, I spent so long pounding pavement and putting apps online while working all the shitty jobs but it wasn't until a friend (previous co-worker) from years ago reached out to me for a position in her company that I landed something solid.
It really is who you know.
In regard to the fuckshittery of names... My name is Steven and the amount of people who want to throw a fucking ph in there is staggering. To me, that's two different names, if you've got the ph, your name has an f sound and that's your plight in life to deal with. I've not once introduced myself as Stefen, so no, it's not a ph. I don't really care but that's a First World Problem iv I'fe efer heard one...
Normally don't have a problem with my name (though my MMO name is Acanis and people keep calling me Arcanis) though I had one coworker at fry's, deeply religious, and kept calling me Christ instead of Chris. Wasn't even an accent issue as he left me a note one day for a customer and spelled my name as Christ, even though my namebadge and all my paperwork and work orders say Chris.........
Oh, like Stefen King and Stefen Colbert?
Spoiler: show
I know, lol.
Like I said I really don't care and I'm not raging on the general public but it does baffle me that so many people default to a ph. I'm Just cracking jokes cause it's my name, have to take it for serious. Also, my homie's super Hungarian fresh-off-the-boat-40-years-ago-but-seems-like-it-was-yesterday ass dad's name is Stephan, so it's been a long running joke in my life. There it is, back story justifications.
My friend's name is Stephen and he gets the "V" thing all the time, so I guess that one goes both ways.
I once had someone add an extra A to my name (Rachel).
I've got nothing to add to this.

IT DOESN'T STOP. OH GOD WHY DOES IT NOT STOP.
And before you say, "why did you buy it?" I didn't. In-laws took her to the mall, they were selling it at a kiosk and I guess she grabbed one and had the baby grip of death on it, so her grandfather bought it for her....
