This. The water pressure with a burst pipe in a commercial building would be devastating for the houses downhill from the building. Not to mention the water freezing after it has covered several city blocks.

I talked to the guys that were there earlier today. They were running the generators last night to run industrial heaters inside while they worked to drain the system. The complaint last night made them halt work until this morning. They finished today so no more jet engines in my neighborhood.

No idea. Some of my girlfriends always want to go to a coffee shop to study, but I hate going there for all the reasons you mentioned.

They like lying to themselves. I also dislike the idea of working or reading in a Starbucks. It's all such bullshit. And most of the time they don't even work at all. So you pay for overpriced coffee and any other additional bits you may need to sit in a public place just to "show" you can and are "working hard"

Worked my normal 4-12 shift, then picked up a extra 12 am - 6 am shift.

Most starbuck's free internet is decent enough to do just about anything, which is why we use them. Lots of hotels don't have free wifi and my office is cheap so that is our solution. We have screen protectors so people can't see what is on them, so it works well especially if we need to stop enroute to go over stuff before a meeting. Most starbucks also have a nice little cheese and cracker box which I get, I dont like eating a lot of baked goods, its sad when I find the local starbucks and they don't have what I'm expecting

I did the starbucks thing when I was in grad school, but instead of at starbucks I did it at panera (fuck ya panera).

Iono why since technically all the internet distractions are still there, but I would definitely get a lot more work done than if I was at home. Maybe it's the placebo effect of knowing you came to a spot specifically to work, whereas home is the place you go to relax.

My husband also did it during low hour times at work so he could work on resumes.

I've had insurance from my job for a while now and only just now deciding to go to a doctor. Got a list of like 65 doctors in a 10 mile range listed as primary care(that's what I want, right? I haven't been to a doctor in like 10 years lol) that are in network. Is there anything wrong with me just scheduling an appointment with the very first doctor on the list, or should I be a little more picky? 1st dude's specialty is in internal medicine and is like 2 miles away from my house.

I'm working a contract for one of the biggest companies in the pacific northwest. Management only has a super vague idea of what I'm here to do, thus stopping me from doing the job.

When I do have something to do, I have to write my own macros and/or code quick solutions to problems that should not exist - something that far outstrips the agreement in the contract.

I've learned that expecting any form of organization from a corporation is just silly.

And to cap it all off, this contract will likely be ending early and the permanent position I was gunning for hasn't updated me on the position, even though they said a decision was being made at the end of last week.

Christmas job hunting blows.

On the upside, I'm getting free lunches and getting paid to literally exist. So that's nice.
