And you were wondering why your job search was so terrible. LinkedIn is goddamn amazing for job hunting.

Make a LinkedIn and keep it updated. Seriously. It's free and can't hurt, while it can absolutely help.

Kind of a contradicting statement isn't it? If your whole family is Red Cross certified Lifeguards, then would they not have to have been put through a program in which you paid to be certified?

Not sure about where you're from, but in Canada I became a certified Lifeguard at 16, which consisted of advancing through each level of the swim program, plus all the First AID/CPR programs, and then one final badge before I could become cerftified. All of which you had to pay for.

    2. Babies need a specific kind of pool situation. ie. the place we go uses saline instead of chlorine in the water, and they heat the pool to 86 degrees. We live in an apt. so no way to recreate that ourselves.

    3. It kinda started out as a social/safety thing. We joined the parent and me with another friend and her kid. It is fun to bond and they could play together. As well, I think it's super important for my kids to learn asap. I too often hear about drowning accidents with young kids, my husband even almost drowned as a kid (which is why he isn't a strong swimmer, because of course, after the incident his parents avoided taking him to the beach...instead of ya know, having him take lessons). My mom has a coworker who's 3 year old drowned in a pond and the coworker gave birth to her other kid the next day. You can imagine her emotional roller coaster.

    4. My daughter fucking loves it. LOVES IT. So while it was more of a social/safety thing to start, I am thinking this may end up being her sport. So I wanna keep at it.
I was put in swimming lessons probably around the age of 5 at our local pool. I became a competitive swimmer on a team, advanced through the entire swim program until I became a certified lifeguard.

I have every intention of doing the same for my unborn, and my 2 step children. Learning to swim properly saved my life when I was 16, and as far as I'm concerned you can never start too early! As a parent you feel so much more at ease when you're around the water and you know your children know how to handle themselves, there's a comfort in that that can not be replaced by anything, not even having a lifeguard present watching them non-stop.

My family waited way too long to put my brothers and I in swim lessons, and by the time we got to swim lessons, I already knew how to swim. They put me in the advanced group and we got to do fun stuff like jump off the diving board. I miss those days, there was a huge pool like two blocks from my house and they had the swim lessons early in the morning, and there were times throughout the day when they'd block off the pool for certain age groups and end the day with an open swim.

Crap now I want to go swimming.

I learned how to swim in a tub attached to a natural hot spring and the pool at my grandma's house. My son loves the water and I will start teaching him how to swim this summer, most likely in that very same pool.

Man, I hated swim lessons. Beyond the initial "this is how you don't drown", swim lessons were a complete waste of time. It's the pool, not freaking school, let me go dick around however I like, thanks.

Swim lessons are anything but a waste of time lol

Even if you're not in it to become a Lifeguard, they still teach you how to handle people who are drowning so you don't get drowned as well trying to help them, and like with anything else, practice makes better, taking swim lessons teaches you how to become a much stronger swimmer, how to breathe properly etc...

i did swim lessons when i was little but ive forgotten most of it. i remember how to tread water (too much energy, fuck that. float ftw) and how to do a few swim moves, but only ones that dont require breathing technique. we moved before i really mastered that. if i were healthy i'd say i'm a decent swimmer (since the moves i do know i know pretty well) but since i'm not my endurance is fucking awful, so i get worn out almost immediately. hence the floating. i'm good at floating; all that painful gas does serve a purpose!

anyway with the lessons i just kinda took to the water. like, i learned the techniques and stuff but i never had any problem getting around/floating beforehand.

Sounds like you guys need to invest in a (de)humidifier. I used to blow bloody snotclots out of my nose every morning until I got a nice ultrasonic humidifier. Stupid electric coil heating cooks the moisture out of the air in my apartment.

^ that's my bedroom right there. I'd crack the window open but we live on a major street, and I'd rather dry nose & mouth than tight feeling lungs

I knew it when I typed it.

Though, more on the fail end... job searching, basically only seeing shit in trucking, nursing, and the occasional fast food. I know this area sucks, economy, blah blah... but c'mon, a little fucking variety please. -.-
