Received an entire 40' container of product from my supplier in China today. Every fucking pallet is covered in mold. A good 20% of the material is going right into the garbage.

Can't wait to deal with these shifty fucks in getting reimbursed for the amount of time my warehouse guy needs to spend bleaching the fucking pallets and re-stacking all this shit. Not even counting the material that's getting scrapped.

That's what you get for dealing with China. Just be glad the amount of profits you've made since dealing with them far outweighs if you were getting your product from countries that actually gave a damn about worker conditions.

Lol. That fantasy world you live in must be nice. Blame the US Government for not levying a tax on chinese import low voltage cable, then my factory in Texas could make it and we'd still make money. I either import it, or I have no business. I've also actually been to the plant a few times, the conditions are similar to any factory you see here.... the workers are just putting in more hours.

Protip: I average 15-25% markup on PVC Low voltage product (PVC product is what is imported). Not exactly pulling in money hand over fist. The distributors are the ones who jack the price 20-30% when they sell to the end user/contractor.

Didn't mean to come across as a shame on you, more of a "you're riding on profits made from cheap foreign labor." Not that that sounds much different, but what I'm trying to say is I'm not insulting you lol.

Wait... what? You received cables covered in mold? I just assumed it was some kind of food product. How the heck did they manage to get that much mold on something that isn't food?

No that's cool. Everyone is entitled to whatever opinion they have. People just need to realize US Manufacturers don't do this shit for the hell of it. It's a pain in the dick to order and wait for shit from China, or Taiwan, or Japan. Having to cover 50% of the cost up front before you even receive the shit. But it's a NECESSITY when the government doesn't want to support a certain section of the manufacturing industry.

For background , my company does pretty much every low voltage cable and communication product you can thing of. We have a manufacturing facility in Texas, and then a plant in Taiwan and China.

Coax Cable (Cable TV Wire), has a tariff of roughly 10-15% on incoming product. This basically puts US Manufacturing Cost and Overseas (China) Manufacturing Cost on an even playing field. For whatever reason, Networking Cable is not taxed at import one red cent. It makes no sense whatsoever.

The only time USA Made Cable is requested, is when it's mandatory. Government military bases or any government project must use USA Made Cable, or Ally Made. Ally Made basically consists of Taiwan and Mexico in regards to the Low Voltage Industry. Their costs are typically close to what US Based Manufacturing runs at.

For US based manufacturing to regain hold in the PVC Networking Cable industry, all they need to do is levy the same fucking tariff they levy for almost every other cable imported into the country. It's such a simple solution in a perfect world. In reality, the Chinese are dumping tons of money off to the right people so that tariff will never happen.

well since it was shipped in a 40' container i would imagine it crossed the ocean on a container ship. that's a lot of moisture. wouldn't be surprised if the supplier tries to shift the blame to the vessel captain or company.

edit: bah new posts. this was re: raldo.

It is a rare incident indeed. I've been in this industry 10 years and have never seen this shit. A shipping container should be completely water tight. Keep in mind these containers take 4-6 Weeks to get here (Shanghai -> NY). This container obviously was not, although there were no glaring signs that a leak was present. Water had to get into this thing somehow though. The slightest bit of moisture in a container that is sealed for 4-6 weeks with minimal ventilation...... you've got yourself a 40' Long Petri Dish.

Not sure wtf to even do. All of the wood pallets need to be removed, and we are tossing all of the cardboard that has mold damage outside. I had to go out and buy my guys mold suits b/c I didn't want them getting sick. I'm starting to feel like shit now and I don't know if it's placebo or this god damn Chinese Mold fucking with me lol.

I don't want this shit sitting in the warehouse over the weekend, but there is no physical way to get this shit worked through in a single work day. Going to have to hire temps for a couple of days I think. There's more support for US Based Labor lol.

I going on lunch having a smoke, and try to figure this out.

Didn't even mention I am replacing the roof on my house this weekend. And have 10-15 friends scheduled to come help over those 3 days. I'm not even going to be here Monday -_-

Edit: Bane, yeah it's all shipped via container ship. That being said, moisture issues in the last 10 years of receiving containers from overseas is a complete non issue. Not sure what the fuck the problem is. The chinese plant only owns the freight until it hits my dock and is QC'd.

Chinese just sent me weather reports and photos from when they loaded it. Typical "clear" Shanghai day. So now we both get to go after the Freight Forwarder. Such fun on a Friday.

Agreed. I actually gave my mom a lot of shit for it. My aunt had passed away a few years back, and her twin brother didn't go to the funeral because he said he'd get too emotionally hurt. To be fair, he's a very emotional guy thought it is kinda fucked up. My mom was furious with my uncle over this, so I said what she did is kind of the same thing.

Which shipping option did you pick? Sometimes, it helps to check different tracking services; you can see what they say here if you haven't done so already.
Registered Mail. The seller spoke with Japan Post and they confirmed that the item is in the US. Assuming this is true, it's either at customs or lost. I'm pretty sure the postal worker was trying to give me the runaround and wanted to place the blame with Japan Post and not the USPS. Tracking is basically stuck at "Origin Post is preparing shipment" which isn't too uncommon based on google results. Either way, the package is an Ebay item, and seller told me to file a claim with Paypal if I don't receive by next Friday.

See everyone grieves in a different way and I try not to judge the actions of someone who is grief-stricken too harshly. Just like the post earlier saying "get rid of all the things and move on," that doesn't really work for some people.

I would have a very hard time being there while a pet was put down. Then again, I also would not be able to sit by someone's bedside and watch them die either. I feel in my heart that they would know that I did care about them and love them but understand my motives. But all told, some people grieve a lot differently and I really just can't bring it to myself to judge someone's actions in that respect.

Lol about the funeral shit. You will not catch me at too many funerals (I'm not at all religious), and you'll never catch me at any form of wake or viewing. I lost my best friend and next door neighbor to cancer when I was in 7th grade. Never went to any wake, sat in the very back at the funeral. I have no issues with his passing. I just have no desire to sit there and stare at my best friends dead body for 2+ hours like it's going to make everything better. He's dead, I know he's dead..... I don't need a viewing to prove it to me.

That being said humans in general tend to gravitate towards wakes, that's cool for them.

Me and my wife have an agreement in the untimely even of either our departures. Cremation, follow our wishes for our ashes. Use the life insurance money to bring immediate family and a few friends on a trip in my/her honor.

    Simple enough.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I have never watched my pets get put to sleep. I know it may sound stupid, but I try to put a brave face and smile and kiss them when the vet takes them away. I don't want their last moments to see me stressed and balling my eyes out. I don't want them going to "sleep" stressed and thinking there is something severely wrong with their owner.

While I'm not sure how much time you have left after the sale, DO NOT wait a month to contact Ebay about it, as their buyer protection will cease to cover you. Start the paper trail now, tell them you've been in contact with the seller, but still at least willing to wait a few more days.

If it's been more than 10 days and it hasn't been delivered you can(and should) file an item not received case. You're likely about to get scammed.

I went to a Catholic grade school in my small town (North East) which feeds directly into the local public high school (NEHS). Most of my grade school classmates went to NEHS. I, however, did not. I went to a private Catholic school in the city, and I was pretty well known as the "defector," for lack of a better term.

So today I just got a Facebook invite from a former grade school classmate to go to the 15 year reunion to a school I didn't even go to.

My company owns a plant in Texas. We would much rather make the material here than have to deal with a plant in Texas, Taiwan, and China. Any cable that carries an import tarrif we make here. The tarrif "evens out" the playing field.

The cables that do not, (basically all cat5e and cat6 cables) cable no import tariff at all. So the option is to either offer USA MADE only, and constantly quote 15-18% higher than everyone else..... or import it like everyone else and offer the same (cheaper) price.

Every single large manufacturer of this shit imports it from China: Belden, General, Hitachi, Mohawk, Genesis , etc. My company is a step below those guys size/volume wise, but we still compete in the same marketplace.

Edit: TLDR: with a tariff we wouldn't import it. We'd just make it here since it would be roughly the same cost. The 15-18% would be going to electric power bills and more US employees instead of the chinese basically. (A couple more product lines to run the material, and a couple employees for each shift to man said production lines.)

Okay, you just don't feel like doing what you need to do to compete, so you want to jack up prices. That makes sense too.
